Student Centered Multimedia Project
Project Title: Let’s Get Physical
General Project Goal for students:
The students will be able to explain the benefits of exercise.
The students will be able to determine and demonstrate different
types of exercise that can be safe/unsafe.
The students will be able to use technology to generate their
comprehension of exercise, it’s benefits, and how it is used.
Specific Outcomes:
Students will be able to plan, organize, and create an online flyer
using a multimedia device, known as a "SMORE", to display their
acquired knowledge about the elements of exercise.
Audience:
Students in High School in the 9th grade will complete this project.
Timeline: one school week (5 days)
Content Outline: See Pages 2-X
Lesson Description:
This lesson can be used to introduce and support learning of the benefits of
exercise and creative ways to use technology to demonstrate knowledge
learned/gained. Students will demonstrate their understanding by working in small
groups to create a SMORE (online flyer). The groups will then present their flyers
in front of their peers and teacher. This project is designed for classrooms with at
least 5 computers, but adjustments can be made.

Teacher:
Standards/Goals:
 TEKS covered in this lesson:
-§116.52.(c)(3)(B) describe examples and exercises that may be harmful or unsafe
-§116.52.(c)(4)(C) demonstrate the skill-related components of physical fitness such as agility,
balance, coordination, power, reaction time, and speed;
-§116.52.(c)(5)(A) investigate positive and negative attitudes towards exercise and physical
activities
-§126.32.(c)(3)(B) use a variety of resources, including other subject areas, together with various
productivity tools to gather authentic data as a basis for individual and group programming
projects
 Goal: Teach students to organize, plan, collaborate, and create a SMORE
about exercise
 Multimedia project: Students will work in small groups of 4-5 to brainstorm
about their SMORE, gather all information needed to create online flyer, and
present their SMORE to the class
 Prerequisite Skills:
-Knowledge of exercise
-Knowledge of basic computer skills i.e. Boolean search
-Use of www.SMORE.com
 Grouping Strategy:
-Student will be in groups of 4-5
-Groups will be chosen at random as teacher counts off students 1,2, 3.
-Students will assign roles for their project (speaker, leader, gatherer)
 Computer Time: The health class is designated for this project for the week
for the entire period time
 Resources:

- https://www.verywellfit.com/exercise-for-teens-1229644
Student:
 Brainstorm: Decide as a group the roles everyone will do for the project,
choose an overall theme for the SMORE, students will see a sample SMORE
done by the teacher
 Research: students will read up on information about exercise, students will
gather more information about exercise on different websites to include on
their SMORE https://www.verywellfit.com/exercise-for-teens-1229644

Teacher:
 Teacher will go over SMORE guidelines
 Groups turn in sample SMORE on blank sheet of paper
 Groups discuss roles to teacher
Student:
 Students will submit sample SMORE
 After assigning roles and gathering information students will collaborate to
create their final SMORE
Teacher:
 Will provide feedback
 Will monitor student’s behavior
 Will assist groups individually throughout the class

Student:
 Students find and gather info using a secure Boolean search
 Students combine all info and decide what to use for final project
 Students collaborate to create their final SMORE
 Students will present their final project

Teacher:
 Will provide rubric and student assessments
 Will reflect on projects and give feedback
 Will assess groups using rubric
Student:
 Will review their final project
 Will complete a self-evaluation
 Will complete a group-evaluation
DAY 3:
 Students finish gathering info
 Groups collaborate with all info gathered to start final project
DAY 4:
 Students complete their final SMORE
 Students practice their presentation
DAY 5:
 Groups will present their SMORE to the class
 Each student completes a self-evaluation and group-evaluation
 Teacher assess groups using rubric
