ASSIGNMENT –I
1. The Focii of an ellipse are 90 mm apart and minor axis is 65 mm long. Determine
the length of major axis and draw half ellipse by concentric circle method and other
by oblong method.(May 2007)
2. A fixed point is 75 mm from fixed vertical straight line. Draw the locus of point P
moving such a way that its distance from fixed point is twice its distance from fixed
line. Draw normal and tangent to the curve at any convenient point. (May 2009)
3. A circle of 60 mm diameter rolls on a straight line without slipping. In the initial
position, the diameter AB of circle is parallel to the line on which it rolls. Draw loci
of the points A and B of diameter AB for one revolution.
4. Two fixed points A and B are 100 mm apart. Trace the complete path of P moving in
the same plane in such a way that, the sum of its distances from A and B is always
same and equal to 125 mm. Name the curve. Draw another curve parallel and at
distance of 25 mm form this curve.
5. Draw Archemedian Spiral of one half convolution, the greatest and least radii being
115 and 15 mm. Draw tangent and normal to the spiral at a point 65 mm from the
pole.
6. The perfect gas relation between P and V is isothermal expansion, given as PV=
constant. Draw the curve of isothermal expansion of gas if 2 m3 of gas corresponds
to a pressure of 5 kg/cm2
7. A circle of 50 mm dia rolls on a horizontal line for half revolution clockwise and then
on a line inclined at 600 to the horizontal for another half revolution. Draw the curve
traced by a point P on the circumference of the circle, taking the top most point on
the circle.
8. Two points A and B are 100 mm apart. Point C is 75 mm from A and 60 mm from B.
Draw ellipse passing through points A, B and C.
9. One end of an inelastic thread 140 mm long is attached to the circumference of a
circular disc of 40 mm diameter. Trace the locus of the free end when it is completely
wound around the disc, keeping the thread always tight.
10. Draw the parabola in the rectangle of size 128 mm x 80 mm.
11. An inelastic thread 135 mm long is attached to the circumference and then wound
on a circular disc of 40 mm diameter. Draw the locus of the free end when the thread
is unwound from the disc keeping it always tight.
