CHAPTER I

Introduction

In our life today, computer is one of the many inventions that greatly affected our

way of living. In fact, it is regarded as an essential tool in many areas including business,

industry, government, science, school, home and in almost any organization and

establishment that exists. It can perform operation and process data rapidly, accurately

and reliably and by using these machines, spending a lot of time and effort in doing

certain task is minimized.

Attendance is a daily time record of numbers of an employee being present on a

particular day at work, event, meeting, place, etc. Generally define as a systematic

accurate attendance it is a day-to-day obligation of every employee’s as fullest potential,

improvement of job performance through of different duties and responsibilities for any

given position. It is very important for the employees, students and others to maintain

their attendance from work or school. And also include the monthly salary of the

employees. As the technology develops quickly, certain advancements are being

developed nowadays and life is getting even easier to live with. It makes every task as

easy as possible and nothing seems to tiring if human tasks are aided with technology. It

can be applied in any aspects of life.

Agnus Dei Learning School Attendance System serves as a time log that is set up

as a computerized database. Using this computerized database. This system will have the

record of an Agnus Dei Learning School students and faculty members whenever they

check in or check out in their attendance.

Statement of the problem

DIT faculty uses paper based manual attendance system by giving the lecturers

attendance sheet to check whether the student attended the class or not. For the sake of

this system some problems has faced that manual system including:

1. Statistical information is not easily to be derived

2. Disturbance to both lecturers and students

3. Possibility to misplace attendance sheets

Objective of the study

The objective of this project is to develop a user- friendly Attendance System that

can be implemented in DIT faculties’ attendance. It aimed to:

1. Identify the problems of the existing system by conducting interview;

2. Analyze and explain the problems using Ishikawa diagram;

3. Design the system using NetBeans;

4. Develop the software program using Java and SQL server; and

5. Evaluate the system using unit testing, integration testing, and system testing.
Hypothesis

The proposed system will be capable of maintaining the efficiency of every

faculty members and student attendance.

1. Creating an attendance system to lessen the time of the faculty members and the

students to take their attendance.

2. Minimizing the time checking the attendance of the faculty members and students if

there’s an activities.

3. The proposed system also has the capability of computing penalty of faculty members

and student to be given depending on his/her attendance as regards to his/her absences if

there’s an activity.

Significance of the study

The development of this system is very important Agnus Dei Learning School

faculty because applying attendance easily and systematically will help them a lot. Using

this system it will reduce the absenteeism mistakes of the faculties in day-to-day basis. It

can easily track tardiness and patterns of absenteeism. This system is for the benefit of all

faculty members and students because it is used to determine if the person arrived or not.
Scope and Limitation of the Study

The proposed attendance system is design and developed for the whole school

year 2016-2017 at Agnus Dei Learning School.

The system provides functionality of recording the individual records of the

student’s attendance. The functional limitation of the project is based on the functional

role of the users to the system. There are two users to the system, the administrator and

the faculty members. In terms of the admin, it has the capability to perform the recording

as well as updating the records in terms of the faculty member’s attendance. While on the

side of the faculty members, it has the capability to perform the recording as well as

updating the records in terms of the student’s attendance.
