1. Describe the operation you intend to manage on the property.
Please include details of grazing rotation, irrigation, pest and nutrient
management.
The current perennial forages are in productive state. Nutrient
management will need to occur in the early spring, starting with soil
testing to determine the nutrient requirements. With those
recommendations fertilizer will be applied. Pest management will be
done in a low impact manner and in compliance with City of Boulder
Open Space requirements. Rotational tillage may be implemented only
in the event that current perennials are no longer productive. This
practice will be used to reestablish productive perennials and to
manage weeds.2. If you are currently involved in other agricultural enterprises, briefly
describe the operation(s) Please include the general location.
The agricultural enterprises that Steve and Arlene Penner are currently
involved in, are diversified with a focus on hay production. The
operation ranges from a cow calf operation, dry land wheat to irrigated
corn, wheat and barley, hay production is our first and foremost
priority. The hay is marketed to local livestock and horse owners, with
an emphases on quality. The location of our operation is all in Boulder
County, and is generally located from Dillion Rd. on the south to
Valmont on the north and 75" Street on the west to County Line on the
east.3. Why do you need this property for your agriculture operation?
This property is necessary to expand our hay production. This would
allow us to pursue larger hay accounts that would make our business
more sustainable.4. How and where do you plan to market items produced from this
parcel?
We plan to market the top quality hay that is produced to local horse
owners and stables. Any hay that is damaged by weather will be
utilized in our cow calf operation or marketed to other livestock
producers.5. Please provide personal reference familiar with your agriculture
experience. If you do not currently own your own farmland, a
reference must include the person or organization you currently or
formerly leased land from or managed land under.
Steve and Arlene Penner currently have property leased from City of
Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks.
