Are You Ready? Father

Christian
Mondor
F r. Christian Mondor, ofm, has passed
from this world to the next. He loved
life to the fullest and the people to whom
he ministered, fighting to stay with them
until the very end on April 25, 2018, two
days before his 93rd birthday. He died with
vision of mind and body unabated and
with the holy oils of Mother Church still
wet upon his forehead and hands. His final
words were "Keep working." He was,
from first to last, a Franciscan priest and a
man of God. May he rest in peace.

Wins Volunteer Award

The Local News, May 01, 2018 hbnews1@aol.com 714.914.9797

H
untington Beach resident Cindy Lim, a consulting pharmacist for OptumRx in Costa
Mesa, was named a OneOC Spirit of Volunteerism Award winner on April 26, 2018, at
a special mid-day ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.
Cindy was recognized for her outstanding organizing work that has resulted in yearly six-fig-
ure donations to the American Cancer Society by way of numerous fundraiser events and bake
sales. Her efforts have centered on recruitment activities that have led to hundreds of her fellow
employees participating as volunteers or donating money.
Cindy, whose family has a history of breast cancer, was previously aware of cancer associa-
tions. But it wasn’t until her own diagnosis in 2013 that she became more closely involved in
supporting the Society and taking a leadership role at work to build awareness and participate
in campaigns to fight the disease. The campaigns have centered on the annual local event
known as Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
The executive leadership at her company has described her a “super volunteer” who has gone
well above and beyond the call of duty. Cindy has also been recognized by the local chapter of
the American Cancer Society for her dedication.
OneOC ― a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to accelerating nonprofit success
through volunteer, training, consulting and business services ― this year celebrated the 42nd
anniversary of its Spirit of Volunteerism Awards program.

Tel Aviv, Israel - the sole Middle Eastern
country in the top 10 – and Sydney – the sole
Oceanic nation among the most expensive –
ranked 9th and 10th, respectively.
U.S. cities ranked lower on the list because
of the nation's weakened dollar against other
currencies, with New York at No. 13 and Los
Angeles at No. 14. The report notes, however,
that New York saw a "comparatively sharp in-
crease in the relative cost of living" compared
with five years ago, when the city was No. 27.
Singapore's top spot reflects a regional
trend of rising costs of living as Asian
economies expand. The city is reportedly the
priciest place in the world to buy and run a
car, as well as the third most expensive place
to buy clothes. It still offers relative value in
some areas, like personal care, household
goods and domestic help, when compared
with its peers, according to the report.
Caracas, Venezuela, and Damascus, Syria,
ranked as the two least expensive cities in the
world.
