RE: Sara Jacobs CA-49 Poll Results
DATE: May 4, 2018

➢ Our latest poll on the Congressional primary in CA-49 is clear: Of the four Democrats in the race,
Sara Jacobs’ momentum, message, appeal, and resources make her the best positioned Democrat in
this race.

➢ Since our poll in February, Jacobs has gained the most while Applegate is down significantly, and
Levin is down marginally. The current ballot with leaners (tested with ballot designations) stands at:
• Harkey: 14% — up 3 points since February
• Chavez: 14% — down 2 points
• Applegate: 13% — down 8 points
• Jacobs: 11% — up 5 points
• Levin: 10% — down 1 point
• Gaspar: 7% — no change
• Maryott: 6% — up 3 points
• Kerr: 4% — up 3 points

➢ Jacobs’ momentum, and other candidates’ lack of it, is particularly notable when considering
spending among the Democrats; Jacobs has spent the least while growing the most.

$ Total $ Total
Candidate Disbursements, as Disbursements/Current
of March filing Percentage Points
Jacobs $597,227 $54,293
Kerr $1,611,786 $402,947
Levin $1,051,700 $105,170
Applegate $834,463 $64,189

➢ After hearing short bios on the candidates (ranging from 15-27 words depending on their respective
resources), Jacobs demonstrates even more momentum and edges out Chavez to make it into
second place – leaving two women, 1 Democrat and 1 Republican, in the top-two.
• Harkey: 19%
• Jacobs: 16%
• Applegate: 14%
• Chavez: 11%
• Levin: 9%
• Gaspar: 7%
• Maryott: 6%
• Kerr: 4%
