MONA LISA STOLEN!

The Mona Lisa, the most famous painting, has been stolen from the Louvre Museum in Paris.
This astonishing news was announced yesterday by one of the directors of the museum.

The theft was discovered by an art student when he went to the museum hall where the Mona
Lisa usually hangs. A _____ He was told by a guard that it had probably been taken to the
photographic studios. But he was impatient to finish his work and bribed the guard to find out how
long he would have to wait. B _____ Suddenly, he realized it had been stolen and raised the alarm.

So far the police have had hardly any clues. The puzzled director told reporters: ‘The museum was
closed last Sunday at 4 p.m. On Mondays the public are not allowed in so that essential cleaning
and repair work can be carried out. The members of the staff are all checked before entering and
leaving and there are regular patrols by guards during the day. We have found the frame and the
glass case protecting the picture. It must have taken the thief some time to remove them. We feel
sure that whoever did it made careful plans; it was not just a sudden decision. Maybe you, reporters,
can help. I suppose there are plenty of journalists who would steal it just to get a good story!’

C _____ ‘The directors of the Louvre are equally capable of organizing such a crime just to get
some publicity for their museum,’ they claim in turn!
