Election Matchup

Date: May 8, 2018

A new Public Policy Polling survey finds that veteran and small business owner Pat Ryan
outperforms his fellow Democratic candidates in a general election matchup against
Republican Congressman John Faso. In an initial general election matchup, before voters
have been provided with any information, Ryan leads Faso by 3 points, 44-41, while
Delgado is tied with Faso at 42%.

After voters are given more positive information about each candidate, Ryan still leads
Faso 43-41, but Democrat Antonio Delgado drops two points behind Faso, 41-43.

Other key findings from the survey include:

- Of the Democratic frontrunners, Pat Ryan performs best against and is the only one
of the candidates who beats Faso in a general election matchup, winning by two
points (43-41).
- Of the Democratic frontrunners, Antonio Delgado trails Rep. Faso in a general
election matchup, losing to Faso by two points (41-43).
- Faso is not popular with voters in the district. 47% disapprove of his job
performance while only 30% approve.
- Ryan leads Faso among a wide array of demographics in the first matchup,
including a majority of Democrats (69/17), a plurality of women (44/38), white
voters (44/41), other non-white races (43/35), Independents (44/39), voters age
18-45 (47/36), and voters older than 65 (41/40).

PPP surveyed 928 NY CD 19 voters from May 4-7, 2018. The margin of error is +/- 3.2%.
