Overall aim and context of the lesson

My short lesson was a storytelling lesson, the story included a moral lesson which is sharing. My main
aim was to let students understand the meaning of sharing and what is the proper way to ask for something.
Students were able to identify animals and draw them, as MST said it was their first time drawing animals
and they did very well. Their drawings were really nice and easy to comprehend. S tudents were able to
count to answer “how many”.

SWC Lesson Reflection

Select (S):
The storytelling was to teach the students the importance of sharing, and that kindness will never be
forgetting. The story was about a Rabbit who gave all his carrots to his friends and he couldn’t make the
carrot soup he wanted, later on, his friends vis ited him with a carrot soup and they all shared it and the
Rabbit was happy. There wasn’t any differentiation, students worked equally and did the same activity.

Describe (D):
The lesson takes place in Al Alfiah Filipino Private School [AFPS] on the 16th of March on Thursday,
and the story is for KG 1 students. The main goal was to let students understand the meaning of sharing,
to open their minds that sharing is a good thing because most children don’t like to share their things and
some of them will be so dramatic about it. Additional goals were that the students will know how to count
to answer ‘how many’, be able to spell words, draw animals and know their names, as well as developing
their fine motor skills while coloring and drawing. During the story students were answering questions
related to the story, then we discussed what’s the story about, talked about sharing with giving few
examples to enhance student’s understanding. Afterward, they drew the characters of the story.

Analyze (A):
I think most students in the front who sat near the teacher was more focused, whilst some students in the
back weren’t focused and I think it happened for two reasons, first maybe they weren’t engaged properly
and the way I read the story was boring for th em or two because they couldn’t feel involved in the story
since they were seated at the back. Two students were distracted because they wanted to play with the
bell that was used in the storytelling, and since I didn’t talk to them about it they kept goin g under the
table and play with it. One student wasn’t involved in the lesson at all, he didn’t answer the questions or
do the activity, I think I should try and involved him in the lesson, maybe if I used his name in the story
he might focus a little. Most of the students were able to answer the teacher’s questions and understand
the content, as well as remembering the characters of the story. Students were able to understand the story
and the moral lesson easily since all the words used are familiar to th em and they knew the animal’s
names, they understand the meaning of sharing and I heard some of them used it during drawing and
coloring activity “the girl wanted the pencil from a boy and he didn’t want to give her, but she told him
that he should share.” I don’t think the students were engaged properly, but maybe they were curious
when the teacher (I) asked them what do you think the story is about, everyone was involved and tried to
guess what’s it about.

Appraise (A):
I believe that kg 1 students still have that little fear of the teacher, so they behaved very well compared
to others. I assume that the students loved the story since its short and included talking animals, which
might be more appealing to them, younger children can relate more. I did m eet some of my teaching goals
such as, developing their fine motor skills, identify animals, be able to count to answer how many.
However, I wanted to see if they can spell each animal’s name, but since I wrote a different name on the
back of each picture I couldn’t ask them to look at the word and spell it, for example, I wrote Hen but
they said Chicken, I wrote Rat and they said Mouse.

Transform (T):
In the future, I should practice reading and act the story out by including a lot of expressions so that the
students will pay attention and be attracted to the story. I think if I used puppet students will be more
engaged. I would include differentiations activity such as matching the pictures with its name for English,
counting the carrots and the animals for Math and coloring for science. If a student misbehaves I should
talk to that students and not ignore it, I should give clear instruction while demonstrating them. I also
believe that I should practice time management because during drawing and colo ring the students took 10-
15 minutes more than expected. Closing should be more effective.
