Since the early 1970’s MTL has
acquired international recognition
for individual Intrinsic Safety
components. This reputation has
now been further enhanced by
MTL Process Automation’s range
of Process I/O products. To
simplify the system integration
process, MTL can offer any of this
equipment ready assembled in a
range of standard cabinets or
enclosures.
Process I/O systems or IS barrier
and isolator components can be
provided pre-assembled in a
range of standard cabinets and
enclosures. Previously only avail-
able as custom-made assemblies,
MTL can now offer these from a
sophisticated, yet cost effective,
standard range.
A standard system and enclosure is
available for the MTL8000 and MTL8800L
ranges. This provides an enclosure
containing the Process I/O equipment,
power supplies and their internal wiring,
field-wiring trunking and tagging and any
necessary isolation devices
Overall package
The overall package includes all specified
components, followed by a full, in-house
inspection. Each cabinet or enclosure is
supplied with full documentation showing
the wiring configuration, the internal layout,
a bill of materials and details of the power
distribution. MTL’s ISO9001 certification
ensures that you receive high quality
engineering to recognised standards with
prompt delivery times.
Traditional MTL interface
ranges
Traditional MTL interface ranges –
MTL7000 and MTL4700 barriers, MTL4000
and MTL5000 galvanic isolators and
MTL800 multiplexers are also available,
integrating the functions of an IS interface
cabinet and a marshalling cabinet into one.
Each system is designed to bring out the
specific application features of each range.
The Telematic range of surge protection
devices (SPDs) is a further option to
neutralise the effect of high voltage spikes
that can be induced by lightning and heavy
duty industrial machinery. Bearing in mind
the high cost of downtime for equipment
replacement, the Telematic range of SPDs
represents a cost effective safeguard and
inexpensive insurance.

The MTL8000 system can be connected to all major fieldbus types

and allows complete access to information from both smart and non
smart field devices. MTL8000 Series offers genuine process control
I/O features and data integrity. As well as real field mounting
capability, MTL8000 Series gives customers the benefit of greatly
reduced installed cost. Cabling and interconnections are both
minimised, and extra plant security, local fail-safe and preventive
maintenance characteristics combine to make this a unique and
reliable form of process control.

Standard field enclosures are available for MTL8000 Series. These

enclosures are rated IP65 and are suitable for mounting in the field.
The “standard” design ensures adequate heat dissipation and is
suitable for input from general purpose and Zone 2 as well as from
Zone 1/Zone 0 areas. Single and two carrier designs are available.
Both designs provide a window through which status LEDs on the
modules, BIM and power supply can be seen. Designs are available
with powder-coated mild steel, stainless steel or polycarbonate
material as the enclosure material.

MTL8800L Series distributed I/O systems provide an intelligent

interface between field-mounted instrumentation and a process
industry control system. The I/O blocks are capable of being
mounted in Zone 1/Division 1 hazardous areas; connecting via a
fieldbus to the bus interface in the safe area. Whether an
existing system or a new one is installed, MTL8800L Series connect
field sensors and actuators to the system via one of a number of
standard fieldbuses or Local Area Networks (LANs).
