Motivation/Opening/Intro: [Think creatively about how to engage your students into the content.]
1. Write the word champion 冠军on the board. Ask students what that word means.
2. Read the entry for champions. Notes: Goliath’s height- 274; David’s height-158. Describe Goliath using words below
and a picture:
3. Ask students what the advantages and disadvantages of having a champion to represent an army would have been.
4. Introduce new words with pictures:
一比高下:比一比谁比较好
挑衅:想要引起冲突或战争
蔑视:小看,一个人觉得自己比别人好。 大象看蚂蚁
嘲笑
投石器
5. Review previously learned words:
Development: [It may help to number your steps with corresponding times. Think about what your students are doing!]
1. Act out the story using shadow puppets with a script.
2. Ask the following questions:
a. Why were the Israelites so frightened, even though God was on their side?
b. Why were the Philistines so brave?
c. What made David a true champion? (David relied on God. He didn’t try to be anything other than the person
God had made him to be.)
Closure: [What will you SAY to emphasize the most important aspect of your lesson?]
Ask how David shows his trust in God throughout this famous story.
obeys his father, ignores the taunts of his brothers, is angered by defiance against God, shows bravery, does not try to
be someone he is not, and gives God the glory for the victory) Ask students in what situations someone their age might
show the same trust.

DOMAIN #4: PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES-Evidence of Professionalism

[Please note recent evidence of your efforts as a professional.]
spend a lot of time preparing for this lesson.

This is my original lesson plan. But when I was teaching this lesson, considering students’ pre-assessment result, I
introduced most of the new vocabs and told students more details about the story after I showed the story using
shadow puppetry. Because of the limited time (or maybe because of my poor management of the pacing), we didn’t
get chance to have some time quiet down and think about the follow-up questions. This is a big loss of this lesson.
Next time, when I teach, I need to pay close attention to the pacing and leave enough time for the end quiet-down
reflection time.
