SYLVIA BORUNDA FIRTH RESIGNSRETIRES AS CITY


ATTORNEY
El Paso, TX – The City of El Paso and its City Attorney, Sylvia Borunda Firth, announced today
that Mrs.Ms. Borunda Firth is leaving her position as City Attorney effective May 31, 2018.
MrsMs. Borunda Firth has been employed by the City for over 20 years. In addition to her legal
duties, she has served the City as Chief of Staff to the Mayor and Director of Intergovernmental
Affairs. MrsMs. Borunda Firth was originally appointed City Attorney in December 2011.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as City Attorney for my hometown. I am very
proud of the work my legal team has provided over the years. The City’s legal department has
many talented, dedicated and well-trained municipal lawyers and their good work will continue,
as I move on to other opportunities,” said MrsMs. Borunda Firth.
During her tenure as City Attorney, MrsMs. Borunda Firth led the City’s legal team in
providing legal support for major downtown and other economic development initiatives and
in successfully defending the City in substantial litigation.
“MrsMs. Firth has been with the City for over 20 years, and her contributions have paved the
way for the growth and successes the City has been experiencing in recent years. MrsMs.
Firth’s legal expertise on behalf of the City were exceptional, and I am confident our legal
department will continue to do great work. I wish her the best on her future endeavors,” said
Mayor Margo.
