defensive side of football more specifically we will be
talking about Tampa 2 coverage. We will look to break it

Narration: In this video we will go over the

alignment, assignment and technique of the linebackers,
corners, and safeties in a 3-4 defense playing a Tampa
2 coverage.

Title/Captions: INSIDE LINEBACKERS IN COVERAGE

Narration: The inside linebacker’s alignment will be at 5

yards in depth over the offensive guards. They play two
different techniques. The will Backer will be an insert rusher
meaning he will rush the passer and will go for the sack. The
Mike backer will play a run through technique meaning he will
play the deep middle zone if there is a vertical threat in the
middle of the field. If not, he will have vision on the QB and
work to the way he is looking. The outside line backers will
play apexes (in between the #2 WR and end man on the line
off scrimmage.) They will be the hash droppers in this
coverage. Meaning they will drop straight back to 10 to 12
yards from the line of scrimmage and will move with the eyes RUN THROUGH INSERT

Narration: The corners will align at 6 yards and move down to 4
yards on the QB indicator to the outside pad of the #1 WR. We will
look to use a cover two technique we will jam the WR and look to send
him inside to the hash droppers and then two the safeties. Once we
have done our job of sending the #1 WR inside we will sink to our land
mark splitting the numbers and the hash 10 to 12 yards from the line of
scrimmage.

➢ IN THE RUN GAME HE IS PRIMARY FORCE. THE CORNER IS THE EDGE OF THE DEFENSE AND IS LOOKING TO
MAKE THE TACKLE OR TURN THE BALL BACK INTO THE PURSUIT.
PASS GAME: (CLOUD TECHNIQUE)
➢ HE WILL LOOK TO COLLISION, SNAP, AND CARRY #1. ALERT WHEEL. AT THE SNAP THE CORNER MUST GET A
BALL KEY AND COLLUSION #1 AND DENY ANY VERTICAL ENTRY BY THE WR TO HELP THE SAFETY. WHILE
COLLISION HIS EYES MUST SNAP TO THE #2 WR ON ALERT FOR A “WHEEL” CALL MADE BY THE SAFETY. A
“WHEEL” CALL IS TELLING THE CORNER THAT HE IS NOW GETTING A FLAT THREAT, AND MUST CARRY THE
WHEEL DOWN THE FIELD. WITH NO FLAT THREAT THE CORNER CAN PLAY UNDERNEATH #1 WR.
ADJUSTMENT:
TO A SINGLE X WE MUST PRESS AN ELIMINATE THE WR AND LET THE SAFETY BECOME PLUS ONE TO THE FRONTSIDE
OR HELP THE MAC ON A VERTICAL.
VERSUS SMASH CONCEPT THE CORNER WILL SINK UNDER THE CORNER AND PLAY THE FLAT BACK TO FRONT.
