Unit Code ENG464 Unit Name Geotechnical Engineering Year 2016 Semester Semester 2 Sector Higher Education School Engineering And Information Technology Credit Points 10 Equivalent Units NA Pre-requisites NA Assumed Knowledge NA This unit introduces students to advanced shear strength and consolidation concepts; further analytical and numerical analysis techniques for foundations; slope stability; and geotechnical engineering processes. The unit links to, and draws upon, the engineering aspects of design, construction management, Unit Description construction health and safety, sustainability, soil mechanics, fluid mechanics, statics, and dynamics. This unit is reliant on on-line materials. Students must have reliable access to a high-speed broadband internet connection for multimedia materials. 1. Apply the theoretical principles of soil behaviour to the analysis of geotechnical engineering problems and the design of their solutions. 2. Analyse the effects of geotechnical engineering decisions upon workplace health and safety, service life health and safety, the environment, and the Learning Outcomes wider business world. 3. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication that conveys ideas, principles, and technical information, through the development of project plans and reports, both individually and with team members, to a level appropriate for professional presentation to external stakeholders.
