Comparative – Superlative
more / than / the most
Warming activity: (Play ‘Bingo!’ game) Each student will have a sheet that has 25 adjectives. The teacher will
say the adjectives loudly and the students will cross the words. Once they have done they will say bingo.
- Use the PowerPoint slides to explain comparative and superlative uses, discus the rule “er, est”.
- Discuss exceptions.
Time: 15 min
The students will have to complete the table by changing the adjectives into comparative and
superlative. I will explain orally then they will start working. The T /TA will sit with the children who
need extra support and guidance.
Extension: - They will use the manipulatives to compare (Tall – Taller – Tallest / Short- Shorter -
Shortest)
Time: 15 min
The student will have 5 sentences and they have to complete the sentences using “more” and the
words between brackets.
Extension: - They will draw something tall – taller – tallest or short – shorter - shortest.
The student will have to rewrite the sentences using the correct form of comparative and superlative
rule.
Assessment (to be done during activity time, who and what will be assessed?)
Provide an adjective and have students write its comparative and superlative forms. on whiteboards. Have
students hold up answers when done to check for understanding.
