"The simplest acts of kindness are by far more powerful thousand, crore heads praying in front of god"

We live in a world where compassion is getting exhausted just like fossil fuels are. Even though we are
technologically developing ,the unfortunate thing is that the vast majority of people ignore the suffering
of other people. They have habit of becoming willfully blind when someone is in need. Such people are
poison to their own kind ,as they don’t realize value and return of compassion and love till they don’t
undergo the same suffering. They think working without financial reward is useless which makes them
hollow bony sack of ignorance, high handed attitude and ego.

Some people make them narcissistic even though they are not, people just get reminded of empathy
during a world war that is humanity gushes into them when they(people) encounter death and get a
reminder that they also going to die one day.

For the same reason TS Arthur and Hans Christian want people to understand and mentally adopt that
compassion and love are necessitates.

In the story angel in disguise T.S. Arthur stresses the importance of loving and caring. Through the story
he puts light on true meaning of love, kindness and compassion he shows or conveys not only does
Maggie needs care of another to survive, but Mrs. Thompson also needs Maggie as someone to care and
love for, to live a happy prosperous life .This displays that humans can’t survive without other humans to
give them purpose and direction hence at the beginning of story Mrs. Thompson is introduced as a very
cruel, harsh character with negligible compassion and is described as woman not of a saintly
temper(vinegar tempered). But eventually the "sick brat" described by her proved to be honey to her
soul and she carries her in heart as well as her arms and lightens her house which used to dark(where
misery wandered around).

As described earlier we can see people who get reminded of humanity at the time of death, “DEATH
TOUCHES THE SPRING OF COMMON HUMANITY"

Also we see before her death she had been scoffed at, despised of and angrily denounced nearly by
every man, woman and child but later when she died we see the news of her death passes in soft tones.
This indicates the change of human feelings in different situations.

Here author not only shows the love and compassion relationship of Mrs. Thompson and Maggie but
somehow he wants and induces the feeling of love and compassion just at beginning .So initially we can
consider that he puts in problem that is prevailing in the society, and conveys that if the poor woman
got even a drop of compassion and love she wouldn’t be involved in idleness, bad habits and lack of
indiscipline and may be being a mother she died purposely so that her children don’t get the same
impression that she was getting.

The problem was that when a drunken woman dies in threshold of her own door leaving children
behind. At that time neighbors went hastily to old hut which could collapse any time where she had
secured little more than place of shelter from hot, oppressive summer heats and winter colds with food
for her three starving children and some came with grave clothes for decent burial of clothes. Later on
farmer Jones took John thinking that he will treat him well and made him work on the other hand Mrs.
Ellis who had been looking for a bound girl, concluded that it would charitable in her to take Kate.
Although she was ready to take her she stated that as no one seems to inclined towards taking this
undisciplined child she was ready to take her.

Later we see a rough man who questions everybody “what’s to be done with Maggie?”

At the time of burial, nobody followed the cart as it signified poor, unhonoured grave. Jones left and
placed John in his wagon after that Mrs. Ellis with great hurry drew the tearful children apart. Post this
some people hastily went out. Later from conversation of Joe Thompson and Blacksmith’s wife we see
that she springs away giving a careless reply to Joe Thompson.

This shows that nobody was willing to take poor bed ridden child because they would have to take care
of her and in return they wouldn’t get anything. While people were ready to take Kate and john as they
could be employed on some or the other work.

Finally Joe Thompson takes pity on Maggie at takes her at home without thinking anything about her
vinegar tempered wife who was angry and astonished and asked what the sick brat at her home is. Joe
Thompson being kindhearted person and tender from interior doesn’t answer her but gives her a calm
pleading look. Later he explains Mrs. Joe Thompson giving example of Bible. As story proceeds the
slumbering feeling of compassion awakens in heart of Mrs. Thompson(evidence-day by day her response
to Maggie changes and also she doesn’t want her to be sent to poorhouse and also we can make out
from her conversation with Joe Thompson) and Maggie lives forever in her house and turns out to a
blessing as well as ‘precious burden’. Here tone of story shifts from a melancholy to hope which
ultimately turns to happy ending.

We see that nobody realizes the sweetness, politeness and love and kindness that Maggie could give
them which was only recognized by Joe Thompson and later experienced by Mrs. Thompson. The sad
eyes and patient face of Maggie did touch many hearts but nobody wanted bed ridden child(show
different people dwelling in our society).

In story little match Anderson depicts the unfortunate fate of little girl who is
poor and miserable and going through difficult situation. It was new year’s eve in
this cold and darkness, there went along the street a poor little girl bear headed
and with naked feet. She was out to sell matches but failed to do so. She kept
along trembling with cold and hunger. She felt miserable, sad and uncomfortable
as she couldn’t go home without a penny as her father was strict and used to beat
him. She was not able to stop thinking about the lights shone from every window
and she could smell the glorious smell of roast goose being cooked for new year's
eve in all houses .In a corner between two houses, she sat down. Her hands were
numb. She lits matchstick and every time and daydreams something.Although she
does not know, she has already died and the grandmother appears before she cries

"granny .......i know you will disappear when match is burnt"and she is found frozen on next day.
This story is pathethic story of a poor child that touches the hearts of readers.

If someone would have helped her or even would have offered some food to her or would have given
some money would have feeled much better after helping her and would have been surely been blessed
by THE SAVIOUR.

In both the stories the author depicts the thoughts about various people in our
society. In both the cases we see that that there are some people who arenot
willing to help and some who help see their own advantage. In story in disguise
no one is ready to take care of her as she is denied of her parents and is poor
bedridden child and a wheelwright named Joe Thompson finally takes her with
him. While in the story little match girl she has parents but due to poverty they
are suffering from she is not able to get love of parents. Here her father needs to
be strict due to poverty but should also understand her pain.

In both the stories poverty is thing that makes some people unaware of true story,
personalities and charm of little match girl and Maggie. Harsh truth of poverty is
displaced here the description of Maggie and little match girl initially depicts the
poverty they are undergoing. In the first case the poverty and childliness of
Maggie touches Joe Thompson here the mood changes into hope but nobody even
notices little match girl she is herself hoping that someone saves her of
hypothermic condition.

In story angel in disguise author puts forward problem and at end gives the
effects of helping others or the reward that we get after helping others.(maggie
filled dreary chambers of mrs thompson's life with sunshine)In the story little
match girl author wants readers to think about situation poor little girl was
fighting with hence raises a problem and wants people to think the consequences
of not helping her. Similarly if maggie wouldnot have been helped then she would
die in same way as of little match girl .

Though the stories are different but Maggie and Little match girl can be described
as beautiful not because of their appearance but their inner qualities(politeness
,sweetness, kindness and especially their positive thought)which gave satisfaction
to people. Hence charity in them proved to self help.

We see that when we help others it not only benefits others but also people living
around us hence Maggie just proved to be as a planted tree which gives far
reaching benefits to our society. Her presence not only transformed Mrs.
Thompson but also gave relief to Joe Thompson who loved children after he
returned from his work .While in story little match girl author wants us realize
that how people can celebrate new year when others are suffering from so much
of pain and agony.

Finally both the writings give message that:

1. comppasion towards those in need is not charity but it is a medium to gain self
satisfaction that everyone needs in modern world where in everybody is involved
in a race of earning money.(this also applies to time period when story was
return)

2.CHILID IS MEANT LEARN NOT TO EARN(in mordern times)

3.Humans need love and compassion to exist.

4.We should always keep a positive attitude.

5.We should always be ready to put ourselves in boots of others.

While differently stories gives various messages such as drinking is a bad habit, it
targets on people who dislike physically challenged people and also we should not
judge people upon their looks.

PEOPLE EXPLORE SPACE IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH THEIR NATIONS FLAG ON

SURFACE OF MOON AND VARIOUS OTHER PLANETS AS WELL BUT IF DONOT
