General Notes
This Work Card was issued to perform a General Visual Inspection of the aircraft for proper configuration and
acceptable conditions. Perform every 24 hrs. or each crew change, whichever comes first.
General Visual Inspection (GVI) - A visual examination that will detect obvious unsatisfactory
conditions/discrepancies. This type of inspection may require removal of fillets, fairings, access panels/doors, etc.
Work stands ladders, etc. may be required to gain proximity.

STEPS Mechanic Inspector
STEP 1 : COCKPIT PREPARATION
NOTE: Enter your initials after performing each operation.
- Pressurize hydraulic system (Ref. DC10-AMM 29-00-00).____
- Extend flaps and slats. Tag appropriate controls and circuit
breakers.____
STEP 2: EXTERIOR INSPECTION
NOTE: Enter your initials after performing each operation.

Perform General Visual Inspection of the following areas for proper


configuration and acceptable conditions (Refer to Figure 1) with the following
items:
1. LEFT FORWARD FUSELAGE
A. Check fluid leaks, security of access panels and skin
condition.____
B. Verify that outflow valves are in full open position.____
C. Verify potable water door and system for condition.____
D. Check left static ports for damage, condition, alignment and no
apparent restrictions.____

E. Check that air conditioning packs 1 and 2 doors are closed and
secured.____
F. Check that air conditioning pack 1 and 2 exhaust area is
clear.____
G. Inspect left fuselage landing light for correct alignment and
general condition.____
H. Check that air conditioning pack 1 and 2 inlet area is clear.____

I. Check left angle of attack sensor for security.____


J. Verify that oxygen blowout disc is intact.____
K. Verify that all access doors are closed and secured (Lavatory
Service Panel, Avionics Compartment Lower Door).____

L. Check pitot probes for damage, condition, alignment and no


apparent restrictions.____

M. Check the radome skin for external condition and security.____

N. Check that windshield wipers are out of view.____

2. NOSE LANDING GEAR AND NOSE WHEELWELL

A. Inspect nose landing and taxi lights for correct alignment and
general condition.____

B. Inspect nose wheelwell light for general condition.____

C. Check nose gear safety pin and steering bypass valve pin are
removed.____

D. General condition of the gear and tires. Inspect for cuts, FOD
and correct inflation (Table 1).____

E. Observe strut extension is per chart placard.____

F. Scissors links connected quick-disconnect pins engaged fully


and ground shift mechanism rod for correct alignment.____

G. Verify that bulkhead access door is closed.____

H. Inspect sound proofing blankets do not obscure viewing tubes


(for N registration) or viewing window (for OB
registration).____
I. Check for fluid leaks.____
J. Verify that nose landing gear doors are closed and secured.____

3. RIGHT FORWARD FUSELAGE
A. Check the TAT probe for security and general condition.____
B. Check right angle of attack sensor for security.____
C. Check that air conditioning pack 3 inlet area is clear.____
D. Inspect right fuselage landing light for correct alignment and
general condition.____
E. Check that air conditioning pack 3 door is closed and
secured.____
F. Check that air conditioning pack 3 exhaust area is clear.____
G. Check ADG door for security.____
H. Check right static ports for damage, condition, alignment and no
apparent restrictions.____
I. Inspect forward cargo compartment. Look at the items that
follow:
- Cargo door lock viewing windows clean.____
- Cargo door seals and mechanism for condition and correctly
installed.____
- Cargo moving equipment for condition and correctly
installed.___
- Cargo compartment lining for condition.____
J. When forward cargo door is closed, inspect handle latched and
vent door is in the correct position. Inspect external latch viewer
for door pin engagement as per placard.____

K. Check cabin pressure relief vents and valves for general


condition.____
L. Verify that all access doors are closed and secured (Center
Accessory Compartment Door).____
M. Inspect right wing and engine scan light, and taxi and runaway
turnoff light for correct alignment and general condition.____

4. PYLON AND ENGINE 3


A. Check 1st stage fan blades, nose cowl interior and N1 sensing
heads for foreign object damage.____
B. Check for fluid leaks, loose cowling latches, access doors
properly closed (Engine Oil Tank Access Door; CSD, Pneumatic
Starter and AC Generator Access Door).____
C. Check reverser for damage/properly stowed.____
D. Check the low pressure turbine for damaged blades, metal in
tailpipe.____

5. RIGHT WING
A. Check access doors, wing tip and lights for security and general
condition.____
B. Check access panels for missing fasteners and general
condition.____
C. Check ailerons, flaps, spoilers and slats for damage and general
condition.____
D. Check for damaged or missing static discharges.____
E. Check gear down indicator for the correct position.____
F. Fuel level sticks and fuel panels are flush and fastened.____
G. Check fuel vent and fuel dump pipe for no fuel leakage.____
6. RIGHT, LEFT AND CENTER MAIN LANDING GEARS
A. Check general condition of gear and tires. Inspect for cuts, FOD
and correct inflation (Table 1).____
B. Inspect brake lines and wear indicator pins.____
C. Observe strut extension is per chart placard. CLG piston press
1000psi.____
D. Verify that gear safety pins are removed.____

7. RIGHT CENTER AND AFT FUSELAGE


A. Inspect center shroud drains and cavity drain valves for presence
of fuel.____
B. Inspect center cargo compartment. Look at the items that follow:
- Cargo door lock viewing windows clean.____
- Cargo door seals and mechanism for condition and correctly
installed.____
- Cargo moving equipment for condition and correctly
installed.___
- Cargo compartment lining for condition.____
C. When center cargo door is closed, inspect handle latched and vent
doors are in the correct position. Inspect external latch viewer for
door lock pin engagement as per placard.____

APU
NOTE: Perform the following items with APU turned off. Use
the necessary equipment to get access to the APU
Compartment.
A. Oil supply; check and replenish as necessary with lubricating
oil.____

B. Fuel supply; check and drain as necessary.____

C. APU compartment door is closed and latched.____

D. APU inlet and exhaust area is clear.____

E. Access doors and panels are closed and fastened.____

8. TAIL PYLON AND ENGINE 2

A. From ground level, check for indications of damage, fluid leaks


access doors, cowling latches and work platform fairings properly
closed, reverser stowed.____

9. EMPENNAGE
A. From ground level check for indications of damage, fluid leaks
and general condition.____
B. Access doors and panels are closed and fastened.____
C. Check horizontal and vertical stabilizers, rudder and elevators for
damage and general condition.____
D. Check for damaged or missing static dischargers.____
E. Check the tail cone for security and general condition.____

10. LEFT AFT FUSELAGE


A. Inspect aft cargo compartment. Look at the items that follow:
- Cargo door lock viewing windows clean.____
- Cargo door seals and mechanism for condition and correctly
installed.____
- Cargo compartment lining for condition.____
- Cargo net for condition and installation.____
B. When aft cargo door is closed, inspect handle latched and vent
doors are in the correct position. Inspect external latch viewer for
door lock pin engagement as per placard.____

11. LEFT WING


A. Check access doors, wing tip and lights for security and general
condition.____

B. Check access panels for missing fasteners and general


condition.____

D. Check for damage or missing static discharges.____

E. Check gear down indicator for the correct position.____

F. Fuel level sticks and fuel panels are flush and fastened.____

G. Check fuel vent and fuel dump pipe for no fuel leakage.____

12. PYLON AND ENGINE 1

13. GENERAL

A. Check all tires for correct inflation and condition. Record in ITV
(DM-CP-003) for any correction made. CDP tire wear limit is
1/16” at the groove; notify CP Maintenance for DMI deferral to
replace tire prior to being smooth.____

B. Perform servicing of aircraft engines CSD’s and APU with Exxon


2380 oil; record in ITV (DM-CP-003).____

C. Perform visual inspection of brake wear pin indicators. CDP


Brake limit is 1/16; notify CDP Maintenance for DMI deferral to
replace brake prior being flush (Reference: AD90-01-01).____

STEP 2: INTERIOR PRE-FLIGHT
NOTE: Enter your initials after performing each operation.
A. Crew seats, seat belts and harnesses for condition.____
B. Cockpit windows for condition.____
C. Perform a General Visual Inspection of flight deck emergency
equipment and systems per condition: service crew oxygen
cylinders as required in Table 2.____
D. Perform the following electrical tests:
- Voice Recorder test (Refer to AMM 23-71-01).____
- Cargo door test.____
- Windshield heat test.____
- Fuel system test.____
- Emergency Lights.____
- External and Wheel well lights.____
- Cockpit and Instrument lights.____
NOTE: Assure that Oxygen Masks are in correct location per
LOPA.
E. Cockpit door for condition and operation.____
F. Make sure the following documents are displayed on the cockpit
door.____
- Certificate of Airworthiness.____
- Aircraft Registration.____
- Radio License.____
- Certificate of Liability Insurance.____
- ELT C-406-2 Maintenance Certificate.____
- “Constancia de Conformidad” (only for N registered).____
NOTE: Radio license only to N register aircraft.

G. Verify L1 and R1 lights and emergency accumulator pressure.___


H. Verify that appropriate manuals are onboard.____
I. Perform a General Visual Inspection of the Main Cargo
Compartment and system as required.____

J. After all items are completed; ensure that equipment and


personnel are clear of control surface area. Remove tags from
controls and circuit breakers, close circuit breakers and position
flaps and slats to retract position.____

K. Verify that gear pins are removed prior to departure and stored in
upper closet at L1 door. Make log page entry for Pre-Flight
completed.____
NOTE: (Before push back) Check that access doors L1 & R1,
fwd, center & aft lower cargo compartment doors
and main cargo door are closed and secured (view
pin on sight).
