PROJECT TITLE:
A Statistical Analysis of the term 2 and 3 marks of 4bs1 geography

INTRODUCTION:
The problem statement of our project requires us to analyze marks students earned at the end of
two terms examinations. Firstly, to begin our project, we will require the raw marks of the
students and we have planned to collect data for terms two and three of the Geography class of
Form 4bs1. Secondly, our collection of data will begin through mediums of primary data
collection through a questionnaire; this questionnaire will acquire the information we need from
students and not lean towards expected answers or be biased in anyway. Thirdly, grouped data
will be presented through bar charts, tables, and graphs. These presentations will make data
easier to understand and read off encouraging a better analytical view to find our means, mode,
and medians of the grouped data. Lastly, discussion of our findings will commence on what
exactly did we find or what was the purpose, for example the most performing class or the
reasons why so much people failed. From that last step we can establish some conclusions and
draw them to this very introduction.

METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION-
Primary data collection will be done in the form of a questionnaire to not only correctly gather
information, but efficiently collect data as well. These questionnaires will be done anonymously
in the classroom to conserve identity as applicants may feel the need to shy away from their
correct marks. However, if applicants refuse we may persuade or reward them for doing it. We
took the raw marks of students and later grouped them.

DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS
Our aim was to analyze the marks of the Geography class of Form 4bs1 for terms two and three. We were
able to successfully collect 68 raw scores from a total of 34 students from a class of 39 which really
empowered us to do this SBA since we saw willingness and support from our classmates to assist us.

To analyze our raw data, we firstly grouped it and then used mean, mode and median to complete the
following objectives:

(a) To find mean- We found mean to give the central tendency of the class. The mean or central
tendency was found to be 57.5 for term 2 and a very slight improvement of 58.5 for term 3. This
gave us the probable mark for the population of that class. We inferred from such a mediocre
average that the class is working but not hard enough. However, from our research, we do
understand that a whopping 85% found that the exam was not challenging enough and thought
that it was moderate which would explain them not putting their best foot forward and to some
extent may have even bore them.

(b) To find median- Our median tells us the middle score, this middle score can deliver the
distribution of the marks from a lower mark on one half and a higher mark on the other. Using
our CF curve, we drew that the lower-class quartile ranges were 60.45 for term 2 and the upper
class showed 90.5 this differentiated between the lower half who scored marks till 60.45 which is
more precise as opposed to mean n and 90.5 which showed a high, mark and clearly showed us
the spread of marks from passes to fails.

(c) To find mode- Mode is the most occurring, by finding the mode we can help students improve
and not repeatedly score the same mark. On our histogram the mode was 62 and 65, this mark
was mediocre on the class’s part and they are willing to improve at least 60% of the population
said they needed to revise more.
CONCLUSION
This SBA Showed that most of the students were able to decently cope with the work and have a
decent number of passes for exams. Most of the marks were between 40-80 indicating that most
of the students did satisfactory. This showed that students’ teacher, classroom environment and
work curriculum are all suitable and that it is up to the student to do well or not. So, this SBA
successfully provided the students with a chance to look at their marks from another point of
view and possibly reflect upon themselves and implement new strategies into their lives to help
with their approach towards subjects and their time allocated into studies.

Limitations
All the students were not fully cooperative when giving their marks. To make this SBA better we
could have gotten more marks, so we could have gotten a larger range, so we would be able to
show a greater variation. They also were not being honest with their marks regardless if having it
confidential they felt a need to give a higher mark, this was evident where a student gave a mark
as 91 when the highest mark was 86.
