Is renewable energy is better than fossil fuels? A newfound alternative to fossil fuels.

Is renewable energy is better than fossil fuels? A newfound alternative to fossil fuels.

I.

A. Fossil fuels, coal, oil, and natural gas are the three kinds of fossil fuels that we have

mostly depended on for our energy needs, from home heating and electricity to fuel

for our automobiles and mass transportation. The problem is fossil fuels are non-

renewable. They are limited in supply and will one day be depleted. There is no

escaping this conclusion.

B. Renewable energy is energy that is collected from renewable resources, which are

naturally replenished on a human timescale, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides,

waves, and geothermal heat. Renewable energy often provides energy in four

important areas: electricity generation, air and water heating/cooling,

transportation, and rural energy services. (Dresselhaus & Thomas, 2001).

C. Renewable energy is better than fossil fuels because it does not affect natural

sources, it reduces the greenhouse effect, and it is readily available.

II.

A. Renewable energy does not affect natural sources.

B. To get fossil fuels, it must to destroy various types of natural habitats such as the

Antarctica, jungles, etc. But for get renewable energy, it is available in any place of

the planet and it depends on the environment and sources.

i. The impact of global warming on the environment is extensive and affects

many areas. In the Arctic and Antarctica, warmer temperatures are causing

the ice to melt which will increase sea level and change the composition of

the surrounding sea water. Rising sea levels alone can impede processes

ranging from settlement, agriculture and fishing both commercially and

recreationally. Air pollution is also a direct result of the use of fossil fuels,

resulting in smog and the degradation of human health and plant growth.

(Lund, 2007)

C. For obtain energy with renewable energy technology it is not necessary to destroy

any kind of natural habitat.

III.

A. Renewable energy reduces the greenhouse effect.

B. Renewable energy does not generate greenhouse gases affect such fossil fuels

because they don’t burn CO2 to obtain energy.

i. Burning fossil fuels creates carbon dioxide, the number one greenhouse gas

contributing to global warming. Combustion of these fossil fuels is the

largest contributing factor to the release of greenhouse gases into the

atmosphere. In the 20th century, the average temperature of Earth rose 1-

degree Fahrenheit (1°F). This period saw the most prolific population

growth and industrial development — which was and remains dependent on

the use of energy in Earth’s history. (Olah, G., Goeppert, A., & Prakash, G.,

2006).

ii. Burning natural gas for electricity releases between 0.6 and 2 pounds of

carbon dioxide equivalent per kilowatt-hour (CO2E/kWh); coal emits

between 1.4 and 3.6 pounds of CO2E/kWh. Wind, on the other hand, is

responsible for only 0.02 to 0.04 pounds of CO2E/kWh on a life-cycle

basis; solar 0.07 to 0.2; geothermal 0.1 to 0.2; and hydroelectric between

0.1 and 0.5. (Olah, G., Goeppert, A., & Prakash, G., 2006).

C. Human activity is overloading our atmosphere with carbon dioxide and other global

warming emissions. These gases act like a blanket, trapping heat. The result is a

web of significant and harmful impacts, from stronger, more frequent storms, to

drought, sea level rise, and extinction.

IV.

A. The fossil fuels are cheaper than renewable energy and almost everybody industry

uses it.

B. The cost of implementing renewable energy is expensive than fossil fuels because

fossil fuels are more common

C. However, it takes time to change and it’s a good alternative to obtain energy, and

for 2020 there is a possibility the mayor percent of energy sources will be

renewable.

D. By the year 2020, world energy consumption is projected to increase by 50 percent.

If the global consumption of renewable energy sources remains constant, the

world’s available fossil fuel reserves will be consumed in 104 years or early in the

22nd century. Clearly, renewable energy resources will play an increasingly vital

role in the power generation mix over the next century (Höök & Tang, 2013).

V.

A. Renewable energy does not affect natural sources. Renewable energy reduces the

greenhouse effect. Renewable energy is not harmful for environment, does not

produce greenhouse gases, and it is available in any kind of environment.

B. Essentially, these renewable energy sources create their own energy. The object is

to capture and harness their mechanical power and convert it to electricity in the

most effective and productive manner possible. There’s more than enough

renewable energy sources to supply all the world’s energy needs forever; however,

the challenge is to develop the capability to effectively and economically capture,

store and use the energy when needed.

C. Renewable energy is more convenient than fossil fuels because is a renewable

source of energy and does not generate a negative environmental impact.
