To Whom It May Concern.

I would like to recommend Swoti Shinkle as a language arts teacher. I have kno«n SwMi since
she was a student in my 7th grade advanced math class and most recently as her mentor her
professional teaching assignment at Tumer Middle School. She was a conscientious student
and has demonstrated the same character as a teacher.

I met with Swoti each week during the first semester. We discussed a multitude of that
she has continued to build her tools and refine practices. Swotj uses a classroom management
system based upon the CHAMPS system. She has clear expectations of students and
them as needed. Swoti has worked on her units to ensure personalized leaming for the
students. She does not have an expectation that all students will complete tle same produd.
but rather differentiates lessons for multiple levels. One artifact that I hope she can share with
you is Ole Harlem Renaissance & Bronx Masquerade project. She has included voice and
choice, dear expectations, extension activities and reflection rubrics.

I have observed Swoti teaching her debate project. Swoti was dear when giving directions. She
used samples of her own writing to demonstrate Ole process. When Swoti spoke about how she
made her decisions about what to include in her thesis, statements and conclusion, the students
had a better understanding of the metacognition of preparing for a debate.
Swoti is dedicated to her students. She usually is at school an hour after the duty day working
On giving written feedback to her students. Giving each individual student advice on how to
improve is important to her.

Swoti was the school sponsor for the spelling bee where the school team won the district bee
and one of the partidpants qualified to the state spelling bee.
