u3=3.0mm, v3=1.0mm. Take E=2.1x105 N/mm2 and v=0.25. Assume plane stress
condition.

6 Determine the element stress and principal angle for the plane strain element shown 16
in the figure. Take E=70GPa, v=0.3 and use unit thickness for plane strain element.
The Co-ordinates of element are (5,15), (15,5) and (25,15). The displacements are u1
= 0.005 mm, v1=0.002mm, u2=0.0mm, v2=0.0mm, u3=0.005mm, v3=0.0mm
7 A furnace wall is made up of three layers, inside layer with thermal conductivity of 16
8.5 W/mK, the middle layer with conductivity of 0.25W/mK, the outer layer with
conductivity 0.08 W/mK. The respective thickness of inner, middle and outer layer
are 25cm, 5cm and 3cm respectively. The inside temperature of the wall is 6000C and
outside of the wall is exposed to atmospheric air at 300C with heat transfer coefficient
of 45W/m2K. Determine the nodal temperature.
8 Calculate the temperature distribution in a one dimension fin with physical properties 16
given given in figure. The fin is rectangular in shape and is 120mm long, 40mm wide
and 10mm thick. Assume that convection heat loss occurs from the end of the fin. Use
two elements. Take k=0.3W/mm0C; h=1x10-3 W/mm2, T∞=200C

9 A shaft having rectangular cross section with 8cm X 4cm sides. The material has shear 16
modulus 80 X 105 N/cm2.Shaft length is 100cm.The shape is fixed at one end and subjected
to torque T at the other end .Determine the total angle of twist if the applied torque is 10X103
N-cm.

10. Evaluate the nodal equivalent forces for the iso parametric element as shown in 16
figure which has a point P at (6, 4) .The loads 10KN and 12KN are acting in x
and y direction on that point Evaluate the nodal equivalent forces.
