LEGAL FRAMEWORK

Migration arose due to war, massive poverty, health issues and lack of means to

support ourselves in the country we live in. There are massive impacts especially in

economic and social development. The welfare implications of migration on the origin

country are most often, though not always, sizable and positive. The main channels

through which migration alleviates poverty are increased incomes from remittances,

ability to smooth consumption, access to finance for starting a new business, as well as

tapping on to the knowledge and resources provided by the international community of

the migrant diaspora. Besides pure monetary gains, migration and remittances allow for

higher investment in health care and education. Yet, not all impacts are positive:

exploitation of migrants by unscrupulous recruiters or employers is reportedly

widespread; separation from family can be stressful for migrants; and large scale

immigration can pose serious challenges to a nation’s identity and sovereignty. 1

According to the paper of Word bank entitled Impact of Migration on Economic and

Social Development: A review of evidence and emerging issues, it enumerated the

impacts of migration to the host country and to migrants and migrants country. While

there are positive impacts where in the country of origin of the migrant would be able to

gain monetarily or economically from migrants who works abroad through remittances or

that it would somehow alleviate poverty in their country but these are just a part of it.

However, there downsides which greatly affects the migrants and their family and it a

humanitarian issue.

Migrants are the people who have flight their country to seek a better life in

another country or to escape war or poverty. These migrants have not really escaped the

chaotic world they were in during the times that they are in their country of origin

however they have become more vulnerable in the country where in they seek to have a

good life, the promising life they thought they would have.

In cases of migrants or refugees who escaped their country of origin due to war,

economic and social problems arose. These migrants like in the case of Syrians who

escaped war in Syria are in hopes of having a life in another country but little do they

know that they are more exposed to exploitation. With no papers, no money, no passport

and lack of law to protect them some of the migrants would tend to hide from authorities

just so they would not be sent home. Some of them would work to earn just a little to

support themselves and their family. These migrants are mainly the victim of exploitation

and abuse some would even be courier of drugs even if it is against their will some who

even graduated in college or with a degree of Phd would sell pens in the streets of the

host country just to have a means to support them because there is no law that would

provide relief and help to these people.

They lose not just their dignity but they lose their sovereignty and identity as they

are swallowed by the culture of the host country.
