PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Hi Rebounders.
Again I ask, “Where does the time go?”
It seems like just yesterday I was writing my
article for the August newsletter and here we
are in September. This is an exciting week
because we have both our first Rebounders
Dinner meeting on Wednesday, September 1st
and our first OSU football night game vs.
Marshall on Thursday, September 2nd. Then we
can recuperate and have a relaxing Labor Day
weekend. I guess that really says that fall is
here.
A couple of get well wishes go out to Paul
Willer, our past-president and now membership
chairman, who had heart surgery on Aug 23 and
to Janet Gething who also has been in the
hospital with pneumonia. We hope this finds both
of them feeling a whole lot better and headed
back to good health. Each of these members has
given so much of their time to the Rebounders in
the roles that they have held. So, we wish for
each of them a speedy recovery and we hope to
see you back here soon.
Our first board meeting of the year was
last week and we all should thank all of the board
members for their dedication to the club and for
the hours that they give to make this club "go".
I believe all of you should have received a
copy of the duties for each office and committee
chair. I hope that some of you will want to
become more involved as the year goes along by
choosing to become one of these officers or
committee chairs. We really have a great time

getting together to plan the Club activities and it
would be great if some of you would want to join
us. If you have any concerns, questions or
suggestions, feel free to get in touch with any of
the board members.
If you missed our September 1st meeting,
you missed a good program. Our speaker was
Marcus Hartman, a staff writer for the Buckeye
Sports Bulletin. Marcus gave us his perspective
on our team and the outlook for the 2010-11
basketball season. He believes that the rest of
the Big Ten teams will be much better this year
and will give our Buckeyes a real test.

name badges at the dinner registration table at
our October dinner meeting: Walter and

of the badge(s) you want, (rectangular - $3.00 or
the shape of Ohio -$5.00) how many badges, and
the exact name that you want on the badge.
When your badges are ready, they may be picked
up at the registration table as you check in for
our monthly dinner meetings. (Payment is
requested when you place your order)

PRESIDENT ELECT’S MESSAGE
Our speaker for the October 6th dinner
meeting will be Tangy Williams. As many of you
know, Tangy is the Director of Basketball
Operations for the OSU Women’s Basketball
Program. I hope you will join us at the October
meeting to hear her perspective on the many
aspects of the team, the upcoming season and
maybe even a funny story about her sister
(former OSU assistant coach), Tamica Williams
Raymond).
We look forward to seeing you at the

NYC REBOUNDERS BUS
The Rebounders bus will be heading to
Madison Square Garden in New York City to cheer
the Buckeyes when they play the University of
Connecticut on Sunday, December 19. The bus
will leave the OSU Golf Course at 5:00 a.m. on
Saturday, December 18 and spend the night at
the Fairfield Inn in East Rutherford, NJ, (about
5 miles from Manhattan). There is a city bus stop
directly in front of the hotel for those who would
like to go into Manhattan on Saturday evening.
The Rebounder bus will drop us off at
Madison Square Gardens around 8:00 a.m. on
Sunday and return for pick-up at 10:00 p.m. We
will drive overnight back to Columbus, arriving
around 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 20.
The cost of the bus trip including the
game ticket is $200 per person. A block of rooms
has been reserved at $99 per room and each
person will be responsible for making his/her own
room reservations. Due to demand, we increased
the limit to 45 people on the bus. We currently
have 38 signed up for the trip, so there are
ONLY 7 seats available. The 45 tickets behind
the Buckeye bench have already been purchased.
Your $200 payment will guarantee a seat on the
bus.

DINNER RESERVATIONS
We kicked off our new year with 91
members and guests at our September meeting!
What a great start! Let’s keep it going by
planning to join us on Wednesday, October 6, at
the University Plaza Hotel. 3110 Olentangy River
Road. Doors will open at 6:00 PM for social time,
and dinner will be served at 6:30 PM. The menu
will be Caesar salad, sautéed chicken with sherry
mushroom cream sauce, roasted potatoes,
broccoli and chocolate mousse for dessert. (A
vegetarian meal or a gluten free meal is available
upon request. Just let me know when you RSVP.)
Drinks include water, coffee, decaf, tea & iced
tea. Soft drinks & alcoholic beverages may be
purchased at the hotel bar. Dinner is $16 per
person, payable at the door. Remember, you are
always welcome to bring a guest to dinner and
introduce them to our club and invite them to
join! Just let me know when you make your
reservation who will be joining you.

confirmed by email) and leave a message with
your name, number of reservations and a
confirmation phone number. I do confirm all
reservations, so if you haven’t heard from me
within 48 hours contact me again. I don’t want to
miss anyone!
If you are unable to attend please
remember that you are obligated to pay if I
cannot fill your spot. So let me know ASAP and I’ll
do my best!

TREASURERS REPORT
OSU VS MIAMI TICKET RAFFLE
To all of you who bought tickets and to
those of you who sold tickets to help make this
raffle a huge success, thank you, thank you, and
thank you! We raised $1060 for the women’s
basketball program. The winner of the Miami
game tickets was Tricia Honeycutt.
Don’t forget that we raffle off individual
game tickets at each dinner meeting. This month
Marty Thomas was the lucky winner of the Ohio
University tickets and Stephanie Coplan won the
Eastern Michigan tickets. Next month we’ll be
raffling the Indiana & Purdue games!

MEMBERSHIP
We currently have a total of 253
members as we strive to reach our goal of 500
members by the end of the club year. We
welcome new members: Abigail Harding and
David Goldberger of Worthington, and Judy Long
and Sharon Huber of Dublin, OH.
This may be the last newsletter you will
receive this year. Please look at the label on this
newsletter and make sure that it has
“6/30/2011” after your name. That means that
you have renewed your membership. However, if
it says, “6/30/2010”, that date has passed, and
we have not received your dues. For those of you,
who receive your newsletter via E-mail; check out
the note that was attached. That note indicated
whether your dues are current.
We have included a membership form with
your newsletter. If you do not need the form for
your own purpose, perhaps you could pass it on to
a friend or neighbor who would like to join the
club.
This year promises to be another great
year for the Buckeye women. We’re hoping to go
a little further into the post-season games and
we need your voices to help cheer the Buckeyes
on.

VOLUNTEERING
This year when you received your
membership card/s in the mail, there was a list of
Duties and Responsibilities included. Please look
over the Committee Duties and see if there is
something you would be interested in helping with.
Some examples:
Maybe you would be interested in
coordinating the Yahoo! Groups and the Yahoo! E-
mail account (Those are things you could do from
home with the help of your computer);
Perhaps you would be interested in helping
to monitor the website and offer articles or make
suggestions of things that could be added or
removed from the website;
If you live on the north side of the city,
perhaps you could pick up the hard copies of the
printed newsletter, attach address labels, stamp
and mail the newsletter (We use Kenwel Printers
which is located on Indianola just north of Cooke
Road);
Or, perhaps you would be interested in
passing out flyers or in designing the flyer to be
passed out.
Please give it some thought and
remember that many hands make the work
lighter.

2010 GOLF OUTING
PLEASE HELP
This is your last chance to support the
2010 Rebounders Golf Classic which will be held
on September 20. This is the club’s largest
fundraiser each year. We still need door prizes
(gift cards of $15-$25 are great), silent auction
items ($50+ value), sponsors and players. One
important addition this year is that each player in
the outing will receive a free round of golf to be
played between September and June 2011. That’s
a great deal!!

FUN FACTS
Congratulations to Jantel Lavender and
Samantha Prahalis for being named to the 2010-
11 “Wade Watch” list for The State Farm Wade
Trophy, Division I Player of the Year. This
marks the third time that Lavender has been
placed on the Wade Watch list and the second
time that Prahalis has received the honor. Only
25 of the top NCAA Division I student-athletes
are selected to be on this annual list and in March
of each year, a winner is chosen. The student-
athlete that wins will have led her team in game
statistics, shown leadership and character, had an
effect on her team and has demonstrated an
overall playing ability. Some regard the Wade
Trophy as the “Heisman of Women’s Basketball”.

If it appears, at times, that the arena is
nearly empty during an OSU Women’s Basketball
game, that’s because it is. In 20 home basketball
games in 2009-10, the attendance averaged only
3,822 spectators. In fact, in the first 16 games
last year (home and away), the attendance was
over 3000 only two times (5,236 at Duke and
3,721 at home against Wisconsin). Our smallest
attendance at home was 2,241 when OSU
entertained California. The smallest number of
spectators that OSU played before at away
games was the 659 at Northwestern. We also
played to a “crowd” of 1,320 at Illinois.
A very interesting statistic is that while
the home games attendance averaged only 3,822,
away games attendance averaged 4,808. The
largest attended home games were against
Indiana (6016) and Michigan State which drew
11,825 fans. Away from home the Buckeyes drew
8,669 at Purdue and 12,412 at Michigan State.
Maybe our games against teams like
Connecticut, Oklahoma, Virginia and LSU will help
to bring the early season attendance up.

Did you know that in 2009-10 every Big
Ten Conference team finished with at least 13
wins overall and at least six Conference wins?
This has never before been accomplished in
conference history. Also, nine of the eleven Big
Ten teams participated in post season play. iThese
facts seem to suggest that all Big Ten women’s
Basketball teams are getting better.

Many people are talking about seeing the
OSU women basketball players assisting in the
gardening at the Mid Ohio Food Bank. Some say
that they really “worked as a team” with those
hoes and rakes.
We thank you players, for taking an
interest in this vital Columbus community project.
We especially thank you for helping those who are
in need in central Ohio.
November is coming soon and it is time to
remind each of us who are receiving this
newsletter that we most likely are OSU
ATHLETIC BOOSTERS. We all need to be aware
of the NCAA rules regarding our involvement with
current and prospective players.
You are a booster if:
*You are, or ever have been a member of
an OSU booster group (Rebounders);
*You have ever made a financial
contribution to the Ohio State University;
*You have made any annual or lifetime
membership commitment to an OSU booster
organization;
*You have provided benefits to an
enrolled student athlete, prospect, or their
relatives/friends;
*You have provided or helped to arrange
employment of student athletes;
How do we, as boosters, help make sure
OSU remains compliant? ASK FIRST!
Before acting you should contact
compliance by calling 614-292-2681;
*Visit the Compliance Website,
ohiostatebuckeyes.com, select the “departments”
tab and click “compliance”. Then ask them if the
intended actions are permissible;
*Report violations or potential violations
to the compliance office.
It is much better to be safe than to be
sorry.
