Supporting St. Andrew’s

“And they came, everyone whose heart was stirred, and everyone whose spirit was willing, and brought the
Lord’s offering to be used for the tent of meeting, and for all its service, and for the sacred vestments. So
they came, both men and women; all who were of a willing heart brought brooches and earrings and signet
rings and pendants, all sorts of gold objects, everyone bringing an offering of gold to the Lord.”
Exodus 35:21-22
For much of this spring we have been asking all to pray about the purpose and future of St. Andrew’s.
Specifically, we have requested that each person pray for discernment as to his or her role in the mission
and ministry of our church. Part of the Methodist response when joining a congregation charges us to
support the church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. In essence, this means that St.
Andrew’s has simply been reminding the members of our community to fulfill their promise to the church.
Prayer should always be the starting point. Pray for the church, its pastor, its leaders, its members -- every
aspect of the church should be guided by prayer.
In the Open the Windows Campaign, St. Andrew’s is asking for financial support in order to fulfill the
needs of an aging facility in the midst of a growing congregation. What a wonderful problem to be facing!
We have so many people coming to be loved and led by the presence of God in this place that our space can
no longer accommodate all that are here. Ultimately however, you giving to this effort to improve the church
is an understanding between you and God. It is not about buildings, but about building faith. It is about
praying, asking, and listening. Lifting up your offerings to God needs to be an answer to His call, not to
ours. At the end of the day, it is not the project that will foster a change in us or in our church, but the
spiritual journey on which we embarked to fully trust His will.
