STAAD PRO MENUS AND TOOL BARS

STAAD Pro Screen Organization:

Title bar : displayed on top most of the screen.

Menu bar:
Located at the top of the screen, the Menu bar gives access to all the facilities of
STAAD.
Tool bar :
The dockable Toolbar gives access to the most frequently used commands. We can
customize the toolbar to some degree.
Main Window:
This is the largest area at the center of the screen, where the model and the results
are displayed.
Page control:

The Page Control is a set of tabs that appear to the left of the Main Window. There
are two rows of tabs for accessing Pages and Subpages. Each Page allows access to
certain Subpages. Each Subpage allows us to perform specific tasks. The
organization of the Pages, from top to bottom, represents the logical sequence of
operations, for example, definition of beams, specification of member properties,
loading, and so on.
The Pages in the Page Control area depend on the Mode of operation. The Mode of
operation may be set from the Mode menu from the Menu bar.

Data Area
The right side of the screen is called the Data Area, where different dialog boxes,
tables, list boxes, etc. appear depending on the type of operation we are
performing. For example, when we select the Geometry | Beam Page, the Data Area
contains the Node-coordinate table and the Member-incidence table. When we are in
the General | Load Page, the contents of the Data Area changes to display the loads
assigned to the current loadcase and the Load Specification dialog box.

The "Mode" of Operation:

STAAD Pro offers you several "Modes" of operation. These modes may be accessed
through the Mode menu from the Menu bar. The tabbed items in the Page Control
area change depending on the current Mode. A check mark beside the menu item
indicates that the specific menu item is selected.

Modeling
In the Modeling (Pre-processing) mode, you can generate your model geometry,
property, supports, specify loads and so on. By default, when the program starts or
a structure is opened, you always in the Modeling mode.

Post Processing :
The Post Processing mode allows you to perform post-analysis result verification,
query, report generation, so on.
Method of creating Input data:

Two methods of creating Structure Data are (i) Using Command file
(ii) Using Graphical User Interface(GUI).

Sign conventions followed in Staad Pro:

 Axial Loads:

Compression +ve

Tension -ve

 Bending Moments:

Tension at top (Hogging) +ve

Tension at bottom (Sagging) -ve

 Shear Force:

Parallel and in the direction of Local Y axis +ve

Design of Individual members:

1. Beams : MZ(Moment about Z axis), FY(Shear Force)

2. Columns : FX (Axial Force),MY(Moment about Y axis),MZ

3. Footings : FX, FY, MX (Moment about X axis), MZ.

PAGE AND SUB PAGE

There are two rows of tabs for accessing Pages and Subpages. Each Page allows
access to certain Subpages. Each Subpage allows you to perform specific tasks. The
organization of the Pages, from top to bottom. Page control area that contains Tab
listing tasks to perform in sequential order from top to bottom. Modeling mode is
useful to generate the model geometry, property, support conditions, specify loads
etc.
PREPROCESSING MODE
The Post processing mode allows to perform post analysis result verification,
query, report generation etc.
Menus in the Modeling Mode

File menu:
Node cursor Tool is used for selecting nodes in a structure. The Beam
cursor tool is used for selecting beams in a structure. The Plate cursor
is used for selecting Plate element in a structure. The Geometry cursor
tool is used for selecting the nodes, members and elements of the
structure at the same time. The load Edit cursor tool is used to change
any load applied on the structure. The Support Edit cursor tool is used to
modify any support applied on the structure. The Beams Parallel To
tool is used to select the members parallel to any of the specified global
axis. The Entity at node tool is used to select beam, plates or solid
attached to any particular node. The By Specification tool is used to
select nodes and members based on the specifications assigned to
them.
