Health insurance increases every year and big companies like Amita Health Medical Center are
in charge ofoversee covering their employees’ health costs. A lot of money is being spent on
health insurance and huge companies like Google have already thought of ways to decrease the
money that is being spent on employee’s medical bills. An example of how Google is doing this
is by having their own fitness center inside the building where employees are working. This
report talks about how Amita Health Medical Center can greatly benefit from an inside fitness
center. The report will introduce the increase of health insurance and a solution for this problem.
The report will go deeper into (1) the differences between companies with a fitness center and
the companies without a fitness center. (2) The benefits it will bring to our company and how it
will help decrease health insurance prices. (3) The costs of a fitness center built inside the
hospital, along with some recommendations.

“Fitness Center for Amita Health Medical Center” is a report analysis that has been requested by
Amita Health Medical Center. This report analysis talks about how Amita can greatly benefit
from an inside fitness center. This report states the differences between companies with a fitness
center and the companies without a fitness center. The benefits it will bring to our company and
how it will help decrease health insurance prices. And the costs of a fitness center built inside the
hospital, along with some recommendations. This report is also available at

With this report I hope to have gained support from Amita as to why we should build a fitness
center inside the hospital. Some of the changes that would occur is that the money spent on
health insurance would decrease, employees would want to stay with us longer since we are
showing we care for them, and we will be much more productive than we have been for the past

Introduction
When someone gets hired through a company they expect certain benefits. Not the kind of
benefits like discounts on a phone bill, but the kind of benefits that they know they need. For
example, in this case health insurance. Our company Amita Health Medical Center knows the
importance of health insurance. Not only because we want to take care of our employees but
because we know how much it costs us to give health insurance to every single one of them. The
cost of health insurance goes up every year. In the Chicago area health care costs will go up
about 5% this year and that percent will continue to increase as years go by. (Schorsch, 2018)
With that being said
how much of our
money goes into health
insurance? For a single
employer their health
costs are around
$6,000 a year and from
those $6,000 we cover
$5,000. (Merhar, 2017)
Which is most of it.
This is shown in
Figure 1, in a survey
that was taken in 2015.
We are in 2018 which
means that this number
has definitely
increased.
The solution to this
problem would be to

a fitness center? Well
because this will decrease diseases by a huge percent. Less diseases also means less money spent
on health insurance. If we invest our money into making this fitness center inside the hospital,
our employees will greatly benefit from this and they will more than likely be willing to go since
it is going to be inside the hospital.
In this formal report you will see the difference between having a fitness center inside a company
versus not having one, you will also see how we benefit from this with health insurance and its

high prices, and lastly, how much this fitness center will cost us and what it takes to build this
type of program for our employees.

Analysis
Differences between companies with a fitness center and companies without
Years agoago, you would not have imagined that some companies today actually have some kind
of wellnesswellness programprogram, or a fitness center provided to employees inside the
company. One-fifth of small business in Canada offer a fitness center or physical activities for
their employees. This brings companies great benefits according to Active Wellness.
For example, it promotes a wellness philosophy, employees feel like it is a must to stay in the
company if their employer takes care of them. It improves work-life balance, especially for
nurses if they are working 12 hrhr.

Figure-2 shows the benefits exercising
brings to us and how it helps boost our
workplace morale. A difference

programs or a fitness center within the
company is that they get crazy amount
of applications from people that want

magazine google is known to be great when it comes to taking care of their employees. They
provide a free fitness center to their employees along with plenty of other benefits. With this
being said, google receives thousands of applications a month.
Amita does not have a fitness center but would greatly benefit from a fitness center inside the
hospital. Doctors, nurses, people in the kitchen, cafeteria etcetc., should be healthy in order toto
be able to take care of patients and their families.
What happens when nurses are stressed out? They tend to feel rushed or they don’t have a clear
mind to be taking care of several patients inside the hospital. What happens when a doctor calls
in sick and cannot come in to see a patient? More patients feel helpless or feel like they can’t

trust their doctor since even they’re the ones getting sick. What about the people that are
handling the patient’s food and they end up getting sick? Sometimes they can’t help but sneeze
and even though they keep on washing their hands every time that they get the chance, they still
have some kind of germsgerms. Which then we would prefer they stay at home and come back
once they’re feeling better.
How is it that a hospital does not have a fitness center knowing all the benefits exercising brings
to us? Not only does it keep us from getting sicksick, but it helps release stress, brings us more
productivity, brings more happiness and confidence to employees.

A fitness center benefits us with the high prices of health insurance


Like it was stated earlier the costs of health insurance have gone up. A lot of men and women of
any age are overweight or in fact obese. The reason why is because when someone is stressed
they tend to eat. They feel so busy that fast food is the best option. Do you have a clue of how
much the industry for fast food restaurants has gone up in the past few years? The effect of this is
that 1/3rd of adults are overweight. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
obesity could be the number one cause of death in the near future. This is why the costs of health
insurance has increased.

This is shown in Figure-3 where you can see how much health insurance has increased since the
year 1999. (Merhar, 2017) Not only that, but heart disease right now is the main cause of death
in the U.S. 610,000 people die from a heart disease every year and 735,000 have a heart

attack.attack. (Heart Disease 2017) Amita wants to make sure that their employers are covered
with health insuranceinsurance, but the truth is that it would save the company a lot more money
if it provided a fitness center for all employees. Nobody wants to hire someone that already has a
diseasedisease, but the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission makes it illegal for Amita
to discriminate against a job applicant that has heart problems or any type of disease as long as it

ThereforTherefore, while they work with us it is Amita’s health insurance that covers all their
bills. Including hospitals, appointments, medications, etc. According to Survey of Employer-
Sponsored Health Benefits in 2015 to cover a single employee for a year, the cost would be
$5,179 annually. (Merhar, 2017) We should build a gym inside the hospital so that we can save
some money on employee’s health insurance. After all, the healthier our employees, the less
money spent on health insurance.

Costs for the fitness program and more details


Adding a Fitness Center inside the Hospital will keep our employees going. They will be able to
go to the gym either before or after work. The fitness center would be located far away from the
kitchen, perhaps downstairs in the basement. The reason I say that it should be located far away
from the kitchen is because employees won’t feel tempted to get a “grab and go” snack.
In the basement there is enough space for the janitors to keep their equipment downstairs and
also for us to use around 6,000 sq. feet for our gym. There will be an affordable price for
memberships although, employees won’t be required to get one. We have tomust make sure that
it is cheap enough where they wontwon’t think twice about getting one though. The fitness
center will be open 24/7 to anyone that buys the membership. Once they pay $8 dollars monthly
they will have access to the gym just by sliding their badge to open the door. The gym will
provide the following machines and the prices will be listed so that an estimated total is stated.

once it is done being

I know that with these


machines there can be injuriesinjuries, or they can also get damaged. That is why it is a good
thing that we are already in a hospital. We would not have to pay for an ambulance but also that
is why we will put instructions as to how a machine should be used in both English and Spanish
and also include an illustration. This would help us prevent injuries. When the machine is
brokenbroken, or something is not right, we need to make sure we hire two positions so that they
take turns looking over the gym and help maintain it. This is because the gym will be open 24/7.

Conclusion and Recommendation


I hope that you have put some thought into this gym and the analysis about it. The fact that most
of the money goes into employee

healthier employees. Our employees will
also feel more confident, less stressed, and
be more productive during their shifts.
The risks of diseases among our
employees will go down. Although this
gym might seem a bit pricey it will help
us in the long run.
Figure – 5 shows how we will be
improving health and productivity among
our employees. This gym will be built in
the basement and use around 6,000 feet of
the basement. It will be put far away from

the cafeteria and kitchen so that employees won’t be tempted by some of the unhealthy foods. It
would cost a total of 33,000 to buy the machines and build in the showers and lockers for the
employees to use while at the gym.
With this being said, I have already looked up some of the companies that can build the showers
for a lower price than the usual. The contractors say that it may take around 6 months to build.
That means that in six months we will start saving some of the money that is being spent on
health insurance. The companies that have been asked to help build this fitness center said that
they would be more than happy to help. Also, this gym would only add one more reason for our
employees to want to stay in our facility for years. Showing them that we care about them is a
reason why we should build this gym.
