Scout is the young
narrator of TKAM.
She is a tomboy and
is kind of rough
with the kids at
school.. She is very
curious to find out
the story of Boo
Radley.
Dill Visits Maycomb for the Summer
Dill is our main character’s (Scout and Jem) best friend who visits Maycomb every summer.
Miss Maudie’s House Burns Down
After making a snowman, Miss Maudie’s house burns down. Boo Radley places a blanket on
Scout without her seeing.
Atticus shoots a rabid dog
S Shows off Atticus’ shot and reputation as the best shot in Maycomb, shows that
it is a sin to kill a mockingbird
Lynch Mob shows up at Tom Robinson’s jail cell
Jem helps Atticus to stop a lynch mob from killing Tom Robinson, shows how Jem
is becoming increasingly more mature.
Scout, Jem, and Dill become fascinated with Boo Radley
The children make several attempts to look at him
Scout walks Boo Radley home but never sees him again

Boo killed Bob when he tried to attack Scout and Jem

MIss Maudie says it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird because all they do is sing
their hearts out.
This foreshadows how they are “killing” Tom by convicting him of rape.
Walter Cunningham comes over for dinner.

POint of view
Scout is the narrator of To Kill
A Mockingbird and the narrator for
the entire book.
Fight for what is right- Atticus goes to court and defends a black man,
Irony even though at this time it wasn’t the best idea.
Scout wanted Boo Radley to come out of his
Racism- Tom Robinson is wrongly convicted for something he didn’t do,
house and he does to save them after they
basically annoy him simply because of his skin color.
Never kill a mockingbird- Never harm something that does no wrong.

Problem and Solution

Jem ripped and lost his pants in
Boo Radley’s yard, when he came back
they were folded up and fixed.
Setting
The setting of TKAM dictates how the
themes are made apparent (i.e. racism and innocence)
Finch Family: The main POV used in the story is the Finch family, early
on in the story we are thrown into the story through the eyes of Scout
who is a part of the Finch family. As the story unravels, we still see
through the eyes of the Finch family, like during the Tom Robinson trial.
Because of this, the Finch’s are the main narrators during TKAM.

Symbolism - A mockingbird symbolizes innocence in characters such as Tom Robinson, as it is a sin to kill a mockingbird and Tom
Robinson dies but is innocent
Simile - In the beginning of the story when DIll arrives, he begins to become obsessed to the Radley place, “The Radley Place
fascinated Dill… it drew him as the moon draws water…”
Foreshadowing- the presents Jem and Scout find in the oak tree foreshadow the eventual discovery of Boo Radley’s good-heartedness
