Romeo and Juliet Project Options

Directions: choose ONE project from the list below. The projects for this unit may
NOT be completed with a partner except for option #6. Pay careful attention to the
due date for the projects. ***LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED***

****All projects are due on ____May 31st___. Presentations and Gallery Walk will be June
1st and June 4th. I will let you know what day you are presenting when projects are
turned in.

Projects will be graded on correctness, eye appeal and neatness, completeness,

creativity, effort, difficulty of the project selected, and the amount of research done
to complete the project.

Follow ALL of the teacher’s special directions.

CHOICE 1: The setting of the play is fourteenth-century Italy, but actors in

Shakespeare’s time would have worn Elizabethan costumes. Make a costume book.
Draw a minimum of one authentic (based on research) costume for Romeo, Juliet,
Mercutio, Prince Escalus, Nurse, Friar Laurence, Lord Capulet, Lord Montague, Lady
Capulet and Lady Montague. Label each costume according to the character, act,
and scene. Include a one-paragraph explanation of each costume. Include a works
cited page for all the research done. You must have at least 4 different sources. You
may choose to create a poster board displaying these costumes/drawings including
fabric, patterns, pictures of shoes, etc. to go along with it.

CHOICE 2: Draw a detailed blueprint of the Globe Theater or create a 3-D model of
the Globe Theater. Make sure the theater is completely labeled, either on the
blueprint or the actual model. Include a works cited page to list the sources used for
research. You must use at least 3 sources. Type a 4-page paper that gives the history
and explains the theater.

CHOICE 3: Design five scenes from Romeo and Juliet. Display the scenes on poster
boards, or in shadow boxes or dioramas. Clearly label each scene according to scene
and act. Arrange the scenes in chronological order. Include an explanation of each
scene. Each explanation must be a minimum of one-half page in length. Base the
information about setting and costume on research. Include a works cited page to list
the sources used. You must use at least 4 different sources.
CHOICE 4: Design a comic book or an illustrated children’s book that tells the story
of Romeo and Juliet. You may use the words of Shakespeare, or you may write and
illustrate a more modern version of the story. Type a two-page paper which explains
why you chose to represent things the way you did. Minimum number of pages for the
book - 15. It must be bound in some way and include color, a hard cover, a title page
and page numbers.

CHOICE 5: Write a song about Romeo and Juliet. Display the words of the song on a
poster or a scroll. You must be prepared to sing this song, live, in front of the class. It
must include lyrics and music and must be classroom appropriate. Type a two-page
paper which explains why you chose to write and perform the song and what effect
you expected.

CHOICE 6: (this is the ONLY project on which you may work with a partner.) Develop
a board game based on the story of Romeo and Juliet. Include all game pieces and
directions. The game should be enjoyable and educational and trivia based. You will be
expected to demonstrate the game and show classmates how to play. It MUST have a
minimum of 25 questions and answers from Romeo and Juliet and there must be a clear
winner. You EACH must type a two-page paper which explains why you chose to
represent things the way you did and why you chose to work together.

ALL PROJECTS MUST BE DONE NEATLY AND MUST SHOW EVIDENCE OF

WORK! ALL ASPECTS OF THE ASSIGNMENT MUST BE COMPLETE IN ORDER
TO RECEIVE CREDIT.

POINT VALUES WILL BE ASSIGNED AND SHOWN ON THE RUBRICS.

BE DETAILED, THOROUGH, AND PUT SOME EFFORT INTO THESE PROJECTS.

***LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO

THIS. IF YOU PLAN TO BE ABSENT, YOUR PROJECTS ARE DUE BEFORE YOUR
ABSENCE. NO EXCEPTIONS MEAN ZERO EXCEPTIONS.***
