General Information
Use this procedure to identify the following change intervals:
Lubricating oil
Lubricating oil filter (spin-on)
Fuel pump drive lubricating oil filter
Eliminator™ filter centrifuge.
All lubricating oil filters and Eliminator™ filter centrifuges must be changed when the lubricating oil is
changed to prevent premature oil degradation.
Lubricating oil, lubricating oil filters, and Eliminator™ filter centrifuges are changed at specific
intervals. These intervals vary depending on oil type, sulfur content in fuel, and the fuel consumption
rate. The lubricating oil type is defined by Cummins Engineering Standard (CES) and American
Petroleum Institute (API) classifications.
A high fuel consumption rate means the engine is operating close to rated horsepower for the
majority of the operating time. This operating condition causes accelerated oil degradation. If the
engine is operated in this manner, lubricating oil, lubricating oil filters, and Eliminator™ filter
centrifuge change intervals will be more frequent.
If all of these conditions are met, the lubricating oil drain interval can be extended to 1000 hours or 3
years.
See the following bulletins for information regarding engine oil analysis:
Extended
An extended lubricating oil filter and fuel pump drive lubricating oil filter change interval can be used if
the following conditions are met:
If all of these conditions are met, the lubricating oil filter and fuel pump drive lubricating oil filter
change interval can be extended to 1000 hours or 3 years.

Perform maintenance at whichever interval occurs first.
