2. Organizes
information consulted about basic characteristics of the general groups of animals
in charts.

In this period we learn how to analyze and explain characteristics of animals, taking into account
their life cycles.

In this Study Support Plan you will find some exercises and questions that will help to you to
reinforce some abilities, using the topic we studied before. For these reason, it is important that
you use your notes, book, and the materials that you normally use in the classroom, in order to
answer the following questions.

INDICATOR 1

Animals grow and change during their life cycles. The changes that happen to an animal during
its life make up its LIFE CYCLE.
The way that you look changes as you become older. For some animals, this series of changes in
appearance is called MATAMORPHOSIS.

Remember that ORDER shows the sequence in which events take place. The order of events can
be described with words such as first, next and last.

INDICATOR 2

Animals that have hair or fur are called mammals. Horses, cows and dog are all mammals.
Mammals have lungs. They use their lungs to breathe. Mammals that live in the water, such as
whales also breathe with lungs. However these mammals must go to the surface of the water to
breathe the air they need. Mot mammals give birth to live young.

On the other hand birds are animals that have feathers, two legs and wings. Like mammals, birds
have lungs. Many birds care for their young. However, unlike most mammals, young birds
hatched from eggs.

3. Use the red space to complete the graphic organizer

INDICATOR 3

ANIMALS NEED WATER

Did you know that more than half of your body is water? Every day, water
leaves your body, in your breath, in your sweat, and in your urine. To be
healthy, you must drink to replace lost water.

All kinds of animals need water. Look at the picture; it’s hard to imagine
drinking so much water. Just like people, giraffes must replace water that
leaves their bodies. Most animals get water they need by drinking it. Other
animals get water mainly from the foods they eat.
