It is also called full tank level. It is the level upto which the water is stored obviously the crest of the spillway is fixed at
this level
Free Board:-
To prevent the over topping of the dam during peak floods a sufficient margin water level in the reservoir and top of the
dam.
It is the difference level between F.R.L. and the top of the dam
It is the difference of level between M.W.L. and the top of the dam
Sluices:-
They are the openings extending from U/S face of the dam to D/S face of the dam. They are used to clean the silt from
reservoir or to supply water to the D/S of the reservoir.Also they decrease the peak flood in the reservoir.
Dead storage:-
It is the part of the stored water in the reservoir basin which is not available for the use and hence termed as dead storage
It is the total quantity of water stored upto F.R.L. it includes dead storage also.
Live storage:-
it is the difference between gross storage and dead storage.It is amount of water available from the F.R.L. to the still of
lowest sluice.
It is the lowest level up to which the reservoir is depleted from the considerations of Hydro-Power generation
