REEL IT? RECAP

BIGGEST UPSET?
TEXANS OVER THE COLTS, NO ONE EXPECTED THAT EXCEPT
FOR THE TEXAN FANS THAT WERE PRAYING FOR IT. IT BODES
WELL FOR THE TEXANS THIS YEAR. SEE THE STATS HERE.
BIGGEST BLUNDER?
OCHO AND T.O.. THE CAPED CRUSADERS DIDNT SAVE THE
DAY, THEIR TEAM OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER.
BIGGEST ROOKIE SUCCESS?
ROOKIE ARIAN FOSTER CARRIED THE TEXANS TO VICTORY
OVER THE INDIANAPOLIS COLTS WITH 33 CARRIES FOR 231
YDS AND 3TD.
MOST DESERVED WIN?
NYG OVER CAR, THEY OPEN THE NEW STADIUM WITH A WIN AT HOME, AND MANAGE TO GIVE MATT
MOORE A CONCUSSION. IF ELI MANNING CAN KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, THIS COULD BE A GREAT YEAR
FOR THE NEW YORK GIANTS.
MOST UNDESERVED WIN?
CHI OVER DET. THE BEARS WON BECAUSE OF A RULE TECHNICALITY THAT MOST PLAYERS, AND DEFINITELY
MOST LIONS FANS WOULD NOT AGREE WITH.
MOST UNEXPECTED WIN?
HOU OVER IND. NO ONE THOUGHT THAT THE TEXANS WOUILD SHINE RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE LIKE THEY
DID, HOPEFULLY FOSTER CAN CONTINUE HIS INCREDIBLE ROOKIE DEBUT SUCCESS.
WORST BLOW OUT?
SEA OVER SF 31-6. THE 49R‟S ARE COMPLETELY DISORGANIZED, THEY ONLY CONVERTED ONE OF THE 15
THIRD DOWNS THAT THEY HAD INTO A FIRST DOWN. PETE CARROLLS FIRST GAME WITH THE SEAHAWKS IS
A MASSACRE.
MOST EXCITING GAME?
DAL @ WASH. AT LEAST THE COWBOYS MISTAKES KEPT THE FANS ON THE EDGE OF THEIR SEATS. THE NEW
LOOK OF THE REDSKINS IS A GOOD LOOK FOR THEM.
LEAST EXCITING GAME?
PIT OVER ATL. THEY PROVED YOU DON'T NEED TOUCHDOWN PASSES TO PLAY AND WIN A FOOTBALL
GAME, BUT “BATTLE OF THE FIELD GOALS” VERY RARELY MAKES THE HIGHLIGHT REEEL. IT WAS HARDLY A
MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE FOR BOTH TEAMS., SAVE FOR THE TD AT THE VER-R-R-Y END.
QB OF THE WEEK?
PEYTON MANNING, THE MAN IS A MACHINE. CHECK OUT SOME OF THE “BEST OF” STATS HERE.
BEST NON-FOOTBALL MOMENT?
THE CHEERLEADER GETTING EATEN BY THE TITANS MASCOT. COME ON, THAT‟S FUNNY!
MOST UNEXPECTED SUCCESS STORY:
MIKE VICK GOT A TURN AT QB AFTER KEVIN KOLB LEAVES THE FIELDS SEEING STARS. HE MADE ME REMEM-
BER THE OLD DAYS...
MOST UPSETTING INJURY:
MATT STAFFORD (SHOULDER) STAFFORD LANDED HARD ON HIS SHOULDER, ITS UNKNOWN HOW LONG HE
WILL BE OUT, BUT HE HAD SO MUCH POTENTIAL. SEE THE CLIP HERE.
BEST PLAY OF THE WEEK:
CHRIS JOHNSON RUNS 76 YDS FOR A 2ND QTR TD THAT GIVES HIM 100+ YDS IN JUST THE FIRST HALF OF THE
GAME. HE ENDED THE DAY WITH 27 CARRIES FOR 148 YDS, AND 2 TDS.
BEST POST GAME BLUNDER:
RANDY MOSS‟S “POOR-ME-PLEASE-PAY-ME-MORE-OR-IM-LEAVING” RANT. WATCH THE CLIP AND GET A
GOOD LAUGH. I JUST CAN‟T PITY HIM, OR ANYONE ELSE WHO GETS PAID TO PLAY FOOTBALL.

BALTIMORE RAVENS @ NEW YORK JETS

A horrible debut for the not so “Hard Knocking” Jets as they opened against the Ravens in their nice new sta-
dium. It was a noisy beginning, with the occasional push and shove, but as time went on a very collected Joe
Flacco and the Raven‟s defense silenced the crowd and even Rex Ryan. Even with 3 turnovers the Ravens held
the Jets to a mere 6-1st downs, tying a low-record set in 1976, and never let them get close enough to the end
zone to score more than a FG. The Jets mistakes were multiple, they ended the first half with 10 penalties for
100 yds, and finished the game with 14 for 125. LT was New York‟s strongest player, rushing for 62 yds. Clearly
the Jets offense needs some more work to be a smooth and efficient machine.

The Ravens were led by Anquan Boldin who had seven catches for 110 yds, and Todd Heap, who caught six
passes from Flacco for 72 yards. Willis McGahee ran it in from the 1 yd line with six seconds left in the first half.
The final two minutes were a chance for Sanchez and the Jets to make some momentum and possibly over take
the Ravens, but again, not being able to put it all together under the heavy pressure from the Ravens defense,
they couldn't cover the 47 yards needed to put them into FG range. The Ravens are a team to be reckoned with
this year, and the Jets need to step up their game, or at least “walk the walk” after all that talk. Hopefully for Jets
fans, the return of Santonio Holmes in a few weeks will do just that.

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS @ KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

I don't think anyone was really listening to the Chief‟s coaching staff when they kept saying how the new talent
and new strength they had acquired in the off season was going to make so much positive change. But that SEC
rookie talent and resounding energy filled the Arrowhead Stadium, as the Chiefs‟ fans started loud and stayed
loud, even through the pounding rain, in one of the most exciting games seen this week.

Chargers QB Phillip Rivers connected with Antonio Gates for an early 1st QTR TD, but KC answered with a Ja-
maal Charles 56 yard TD at the very end of the QTR. 2 more TD‟s in the 2nd QTR, one a 2yd pass from a less
than spectacular Matt Cassell to Tony Moeaki, and the other a record 94 yd punt return by Dexter McCluster
end the half put the Cheifs up by 14 points. The Chargers would score again in the 4th, a 59 yd pass to Legedu
Naanee, but Philips Rivers made some serious errors in his accuracy, and was stopped within sight of the goal
line 4 times by a revitalized defense that has not been seen in KC for at least 3 years.

Ball security and an impressive defense were key for the Chiefs against the defending 4 time Division Champs,
in the rain, and earned them a W for their home opener and the debut of the remodeling of the Arrowhead
complex. The Chargers fought a tough battle against the elements, the rain obviously a problem for the offense,
as well as mistakes by the kick-coverage, that opened up for McCluster‟s epic punt return TD. It was the first
MNF win for the Chiefs since 2000.

REEL IT? RECAP

Expectations, excitement and emotions run high this weekend, as we

prepare for the open of the 2010 NFL season. We light our grills, pack our
coolers, defrost the bratwurst, and buy cases and cases of beer in prepa-
ration for the biggest event of the week, Sunday Night Football. Team jer-
seys and foam fingers are rescued from the backs of our closets, and the
fight for the best seat in front of the TV begins.
An American tradition, at a time when America can afford little else
but tradition. We may not be able to buy that new HDTV, or go to a home
game this year, but our teams WILL know that we support them, from the
colors we wear on game day, to the Facebook posts we make in ALL
CAPS. A gathering of close friends and family, all in support of the same
goal; to enjoy the day, and come out on top.
We root for our favorites, the heroes we’ve followed for years. We cast
a suspicious eye on the overpaid rookie, or the underpaid Coach. We talk
stats and passer ratings, or discuss the latest scandal to befall an NFL star.
We yell, scream and jump up and down, completely unaware that the
referee can’t hear us and doesn't care if we think the call was bad.
Families that divide over everything else, come together for football,
because of the passion that is instilled in every member from the young-
est age. Rivalry’s are continued, wars are fought on the grid-iron, and the
quest for the top starts all over again this fall. It’s a new season. There are
new faces, new stadiums, and new rules. Let the battle begin.

Have a Great Season, See You Next Week,

-J.R.
