1 Foreword

2 This draft amendment to the draft European Standard FprEN 62561-1:2011 was prepared by
3 CLC/TC 81X "Lightning protection". It contains common modifications to 81/416/FDIS (future
4 IEC 62561-1:201X, Ed. 1) and is submitted to the formal vote.

5 If approved, this draft amendment will be merged together with FprEN 62561-1:2011 and both drafts
6 will be published as one single document, i.e. EN 62561-1:201X (based on IEC 62561-1:201X,
7 modified), with the implementation dates of this FprAA.

8 The following dates are proposed:

• latest date by which the existence of this document (doa) dor + 6 months
has to be announced at national level

• latest date by which this document has to be (dop) dor + 12 months

implemented at national level
by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement

• latest date by which the national (dow) dor + 36 months

standards conflicting with this document (to be confirmed or
have to be withdrawn modified when voting)

9 This document will supersede EN 50164-1:2008.

10 Clauses, subclauses, notes, tables, figures and annexes which are additional to those in
11 IEC 62561-1:201X are prefixed “Z”.

13 COMMON MODIFICATIONS

14 Whole document
15 Replace all references to IEC 62305 by references to EN 62305.

16 Replace all references to IEC 62561 by references to EN 62561.

17 2 Normative references
18 Replace the references to IEC standards by the following:

19 EN 60068-2-52:1996, Environmental testing – Part 2: Tests – Test Kb: Salt mist, cyclic (sodium
20 chloride solution) (IEC 60068-2-52:1996)

21 EN 62305-1, Protection against lightning – Part 1: General principles (IEC 62305-1)

22 EN 62561-2 1), Lightning Protection System Components (LPSC) – Part 2: Requirements for
1)
23 conductors and earth electrodes (IEC 62561-2 )

24 EN ISO 6988:1994, Metallic and other non-organic coatings – Sulphur dioxide test with general
25 condensation of moisture (ISO 6988:1985)

26 ISO 6957:1988, Copper alloys – Ammonia test for stress corrosion resistance

27 4 Classification

28 After 4.2, add the following:

29 4.Z1 Classification is also made according to its mechanical behaviour for connectors:

30 a) declared to withstand static mechanical load 900 N;

31 b) not intended to carry static mechanical load.

32 6 Tests

33 Replace the whole subclause 6.4 by the following:

34 6.4 Static mechanical test

35 6.4.Z1 General
36 The static mechanical test is specifically applicable to the configurations B2/B3/B7 as shown in
37 Annex B. For other applications, it is neither practical nor necessary to carry out static mechanical
38 tests and is therefore not a requirement. For specific applications such as connectors embedded in
39 concrete, it is not required to carry out mechanical tests.

40 The test shall be performed with all conductor materials permitted according to the manufacturer's
41 declaration. To minimize the number of tests, connectors that are used with several different
42 conductor materials shall be performed using stainless steel.

43 Any connector with a connection range equal to or less than 2 mm shall be tested on the minimum
44 conductor size recommended. If the connection range is greater than 2 mm it shall be tested on the
45 minimum and maximum size of conductor recommended.

1) To be published.
FprEN 62561-1:2011/FprAA:2012 –4–

46 6.4.Z2 Test procedure

47 A second set of 3 new connectors shall be arranged according to the manufacturers or suppliers
48 installation instructions with the recommended conductor materials, sizes and tightening torques.

49 Each conductor of the specimen assemblies shall be subjected independently to a mechanical tensile
50 force of 900 N ± 20 N for 1 min.

51 The connection component is deemed to have passed the test if there is less than 1 mm movement of
52 the conductor during the test and no damage on the connector or conductor.

53 Annexes
54 Annex C (normative) Conditioning/ageing for connection components
55 In C.1, replace twice "IEC 60068-2-52:1996" by "EN 60068-2-52:1996".

60 Normative references to international publications
61 with their corresponding European publications
62 The following documents, in whole or in part, are normatively referenced in this document and are
63 indispensable for its application. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated
64 references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.
65 NOTE Where an International Publication has been modified by common modifications, indicated by (mod), the relevant
