“Vedokhilo Dharmamulam”. Vedas are the root of all the Dharma

of Yagnaas as the supreme way of worshipping the Lord.
Since Yagnaas are harbinger of peace and prosperity to the universe,
it is said that “Yagnah Kalyanahetavah”
In Lalitha Sahasranama, the Godess is worshipped as Yagna Priya, Yagna Kartri,
Yajamana Swarupini, In Vishnusahasranama the Lord is praised thus Yagno, Yagnapathi,
Yajwa, Yagnaanga, Yagnavahanah
In Bhagavati Geetha, it is said.
Annadhavanti Bhutaani Parjanyaadanna Sambhavah
Yagnaadbhavati Parjyanyo Yagnah Karmasamudbhavah
From which it is clear that the Yagnaas are the cause which propel the harvest, a
basic element for the survival of all the living beings.
Such of the Yagnaas are of three kinds, Nitya, Naimittka and Kamya. The Nitya which
are performed regularly, Naimittka are performed to suit a particular occasion and the
Kamya are performed to get a particular desire fulfilled. The Chaaturmasya Yaagas fall
under the category of Nitya.
For locking oneself into the mode eligible for performing Rudraadhyaaya (Namakam)
either by way of Home, Japa of Abhisekha the sankalpa includes “Chaaturmaasyaatamane
Madhyamaa bhyaanamah”, the earlier recital being about Agnihothra and Darsa
Purnamaasyaas and later recitals being Niroodha Pasubandha and Agnistoma, which
highlights the Association of Chaaturmaasya Yagaas with Rudra through Namakam.
