Course Description : DICTION CLASS 2: German Diction / IPA

OBJECTIVES:

- The primary objective of this course is to help students understand the dynamics of articulation, phonation
and effective voice production; for the students to be able to improve diction in speaking, and singing of
the German language.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

- Read and write words using IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) in German language
- Be able to read texts German language effectively, with its proper phonation and articulation of words
- Be able to sing German songs with proper diction, and articulation

REQUIREMENT MATERIALS FOR STUDENTS: One (1) Hardcopy of the Textbook, German for Singers One (1)
notebook; at least two (2) songs to perform in German, to be approved by the teacher; at least one (1) hardcopy of
song to be performed in class; One (1) German dictionary for reference

EVERY STUDENT IS EXPECTED TO:

1. Attend lessons regularly and punctually. Students who miss more than 3 classes without prior excuse will be
withdrawn from the course. Student must bring all required materials every class.
2. Come to class prepared; accomplishing all assigned tasks and assignments, quizzes, exercises and exams,
and must be prepared to sing and perform their assigned piece in class.
3. Prepare for the MIDTERM and FINAL Examination as a major requirement for the semester.
4. Appear in the RECITAL as part of the requirements of the course (if there is any)
5. Show progress in all areas, i.e., proficiency in reading and writing in IPA, improvements in singing with proper
articulation, and phonation.
6. Attend all the required performances, workshops, master classes and supplementary class, seminars as
advised by the teacher.

GRADING SYSTEM (100%)

A1 – Attendance 10% A4 – Midterm Exam 20%

A2 – Quizzes & Exercises 25% A5 – Final Exam 20%

A3 – Oral Performance (Reading/Singing) A6 – Recital 10%
