Title: Mixtures and compounds
Aim: To show the differences between a mixture and a compound.
Apparatus and materials: Iron filings, sulphur powder, spatula, evaporating dish, magnet, wire gauze,
tripod stand, Bunsen burner

Preparing a mixture: Put one spatula of iron filings and one spatula of sulphur powder into and
evaporating dish and mix them together.

Preparing a compound: Put one spatula of iron filings and one spatula of sulphur powder into and
evaporating dish and mix them together. Then heat the mixture.

2. Wrap a magnet with a piece of tissue


paper and tie it with a rubber band.
