SPEAKING PRACTICE (I)

TASK 1. Monologue

The statement ‘Without a mobile phone, you basically don’t exist’ is gaining popularity among teenagers and adults,
which means that nowadays being connected is essential for many of us.

Organise these prompts before you talk to the examiners about the topic for 4-6 minutes:

- Modern obsession with being connected


- Advantages and disadvantages of mobile phones
- Your opinion of mobile phones related to globalization

You have up to 10 minutes to prepare your talk. You can take notes or make a brief plan of what you are going to say.
Talk to the examiners for about 4-6 minutes. You can use your notes during your talk, but you cannot read them aloud.
Your production will be recorded.

TASK 2. Interaction

You and your classmate have to write an essay about the importance of different kinds of scientific research for
contemporary society. Discuss the following points in detail and try to reach an agreement:

- Creating cleaner energy sources


- Research on how the brain works
- Observation of galaxies and stars

You have 2-3 minutes for individual preparation. Then talk to your partner(s) for 6 to 9 minutes if there are two candidates
or for 9 to 12 minutes if there are three. Your production will be recorded.

TASK 1. Monologue

Looking youthful seems to be the trend in these days. How much can our habits help a person seem youthful?

Organise these prompts before you talk to the examiners about the topic for 4-6 minutes:

- keep up with trends in music and technology


- maintain contact with young people
- continue studying
