Unit 12 Assignment 4 Part 2

Professional development

Further education and training, full time degrees, part-time, foundation degrees, bachelor degrees
and master degrees.

Further education covers education and training which occurs after second level of school but which
is not part of the third level system. There are number of the third level system. There are several
providers of further and adult education and training and a wide variety of schools, organisations
and institutions, are involved in the delivery of continuing education and training for young school
leavers and adults. A range of education and training is provided by various organisations aimed at
upskilling and reskilling people who are unemployed. Providing skills for work is a priority. Full-time
degrees, if a course is described as full-time, this could mean that you are required to be present
from 9am to 5pm or equivalent every week-day. This is possible for some PhDs, particularly in the
sciences. Other full-time courses could provide a set number of hours teaching or contact time per
week, and expect a substantial amount of self-directed study in addition: this is more common for
master’s programmes. Part-time degrees, Part-time study can be ideal if you want to continue
working, but not all part-time courses are timetabled
to be taken in the evenings or on specific, regular
days each week. For some courses, however, for
example those offering a wide range of optional
modules, it may be possible to timetable courses in
this way. If you are an international student, unless
you are already living in the UK and are not
dependent on your study to continue doing so, you
may find you cannot get a visa to attend a part-time
programme where study takes place for less than a
specific number of hours each week. Foundation
degree, A foundation degree is a combined academic
and vocational qualification in higher education,
equivalent to two thirds of an honours bachelor's
degree, introduced by the government of the United Kingdom in September 2001. Foundation
degrees are available in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, offered by universities, by colleges
that have their own foundation degree awarding powers, and by colleges and employers running
courses validated by universities. Bachelor degree, is an undergraduate academic awarded by
colleges and universities upon completion of a course of study lasting three to seven years
(depending on institution and academic discipline). In some institutions and educational systems,
some bachelor's degrees can only be taken as graduate or postgraduate degrees after a first degree
has been completed. Master’s degree, is usually a second-cycle academic degree awarded
by universities or colleges upon completion of a course of study demonstrating mastery or a high-
order overview of a specific field of study or area of professional practice. A master's degree
normally requires previous study at the bachelor's level, either as a separate degree or as part of an
integrated course.

Work Experience

Work experience is when a student from secondary school all the

way to higher education finds a place to learn about a job in the
field they want to work in. When you complete your education,
you will be in a job, the more years you have in that job/field then
you will have more experience in that kind of job that will be
useful for putting on your CV. Sometimes an employer will look
for experience over qualifications because then they know that
they have done it before and would take less time and money to train.

Training on the Job

Training on the job can be anything in your job that requires something specialist. A catering
assistant would need to do training like food and hygiene level 2 training. This is something that can
be put on your CV and is useful if you want another job in that field. On
the job training is known by many as OJT as your employers or someone
in the company you are hired in who is a professional at the training
course would guide you through the training while you work. Training
on the job offers great experience for the person training and gives a
better feel of what they are training to become and work for which is
why it’s better to work on site with the people you are training to work
with in the future.

Sources of information, trade unions, careers services

A source of information is where you may get your information from. A type of source could be an
interview, book, someone’s report/article or finding information through the internet. A trade union
is known as a labour union, an organisation of workers who have come together to achieve common
goal that have been set between them. These goals can be protecting, improving and protesting for
rights and equality. The main purpose of a trade union is to maintain and improve conditions of the
work place. Career services is when someone in a university or
college and school is there to find jobs and work experience for
the students. Their job is to communicate between the
employer and represent the school as they search for jobs in
the area. There is a national careers service that provides
information, advice and guidance to help people make
decisions on learning and work opportunities.

Skills analysis

Skills can come in many forms, and are useful for many different things. Some skills are what you
carry with you, what makes you, these can be skills like flexibility, honesty, communication,
determination and persistence, eager and work ethic a personal with good skills can be useful in
both personal and professional parts of their lives. In many jobs,
it is required that you have technical skills, this can include, web
design skills, understand cameras, database skills, word
processing, electronic presentation or e-mail management. These
skills are some of the basics employers look for if you are going
into an IT job. Personal development planning is when the
process of creating a plan based on goal-setting, values and

reflection for planning of personal development within a career or education. Some personal
development planning might be: learning to get along with others; become more proactive; read
more; improve your body language; and improve resolution skills.

Transferable skills
Transferable skills are skills that are relevant and helpful across different areas of life: socially,
professionally and at school. They are ‘portable skills’. An employer likes someone who can
demonstrate a good set of transferable skills.

Personal attributes

There are good attributes and then there are bad attributes.
Positive attributes are things like achiever, active, ambitious,
cheerful. Competitive and consistent. Some bad attributes are
bossy, boastful, cruel, cunning, fussy and foolish. Some
professional attributes are accountable, authentic, caring,
consistent and broadminded. Having positive attributes can
increase your business and personal relationships. Being able to recognise and compliment positive
attributes is, in and of itself, a positive attribute. Some personal attributes would be more like
enthusiasm, Motivation, commitment and drive. Personal attributes are the attributes that describe
you, your characteristics and are important to you for getting into a job.

Knowledge and skills

Skills is something anyone can develop over time and experience or even through training courses.
Skills take time to learn, learning how to do something the most effective way that takes the least
amount of time in the best quality of output. Skills are something that makes up you, and shows
your personality and what you are like. Some skills work with knowledge, once you learned the skill
you always have an understanding. Skills can be transferred from one
job to another, learning some new skills that can be useful in a new
job you are going for. Knowledge is the thing that shows your
understanding of something, someone having knowledge of how
things work in a work place. Having knowledge in a certain field
means you can learn specific skills you need to complete your tasks or
to help with work.

Commitment

Commitment means that a person has a strong sense of intention and focus. It typically is
accompanied by a statement of purpose or a plan of action. A good example is committed to finish
their work before the deadline so they can do their things
earlier. University and further education can rely a lot on the
student to be committed to sit in a classroom and study for a
year with the reward of achieving a grade at the end of it all.
Commitment is like binding yourself to a task and you can only
unbind yourself once you have finished it. Working extra time
to get a task done in work or school shows determination that
you want to get the work done.

Efficiency
Joshua Smith

Efficiency is the ability to make use of something like time in the best
way you can to make sure you get your tasks done on time and before
the deadline. To b able to produce something in a good amount of time
you can then move on to something else. Efficiency can be measured
with how much input effort you put into something compared to how
much you may get out of it. If someone is more efficient then you’re
able to get more out of what you’re given in the time you have, people
who are more efficient would be more likely to get a job because they
are more desired by employers, possibly saving the company time and
money with their extra productivity.

Reliability

To be more reliable and more trustworthy, you should manage

commitments, start and finish what you start, implement daily disciplines to
make sure you achieve daily goals and be truthful respect time and others
and their time. To show reliability in a business you must make sure you can
manage commitments correctly, saying you do something means you will do
something, using timelines to be able to achieve your tasks. When a person
is more reliable, people could be relied on to go into work if someone else
couldn’t. Reliability helps people get a job or even a promotion because reliable people are desired
by employers.

Attendance and Punctuality

Attendance and punctuality is an important part of you that tells the

employer what you are like. If you were late a lot at college, this is
something that can hold you back from getting a job. Being punctual
shows that you are respectful and you are keen to learn/earn money.
Punctuality is there to brand yourself, showing what you are like to the
university, showing you can be professional and reliable and shows trustworthiness and most
importantly it shows that you value your time at university. Both attendance and punctuality in
education reflects on to finding a job, if you were late a lot and it affected your attendance it would
be harder to find a job because the employer would think you are not as reliable as someone who
has 100% attendance and punctuality.

Self-presentation

Self-presentation is the behaviour that attempts to convey some information about oneself or some
image of oneself to other people. It refers to how someone attempts to present themselves to
control or shape how others view the person. Self-presentation is about broader behaviours like
impressions and referred to how presentation is controlled. Presentation is how you speak, to how
you dress and how you address someone. It also is related to many personal attributes that reflect
on it. If someone dresses themselves confidently, looking smart and stood up, they will look more
confident and more likely to be hired. If someone is shy and wouldn’t talk to someone unless they
have to, it might be harder for them to get a job because they might not know how to communicate
properly or struggle in interpersonal skills.

Functional skills

Time management is not very difficult to do when you think about it, but
can be quite difficult for some. Time management is about prioritising
your time so you get the most important things done first then have time
to do other things. Overtime you’ll notice you get more time to do things
you like. Time management is something an employer is always happy to
see the interviewee is skilled in. Functional skills are important for any
job, that’s why people need at least C in English and maths to get decent
jobs, without them, it’s much harder to find a job if you do not have
these skills as they are the core basic skills that hold a foundation for your
career.
