Everyone has someone they look up to and want to be just like one day and

everyone has different opinion on who a true hero is. My personal hero is Miss.
Naurah Syaziya, a flight attendant. When talking about flight attendant, anyone
would thank them, especially those who have a comfortable and happy journey on
the flight. But, are they really great? Aren’t they just a bunch of people who serves
on the flight with a smiley face?

When I think of a hero, I think of someone who is

brave, strong, hardworking, trustworthy and unselfish. Miss Syaziya has all of those
qualities. Syaziya is pretty and confident, she took some modeling assignment and
appeared in many television advertisements for big companies.

Miss Naurah Syaziya was born on 22 November 1989 in Sungai Petani, Kedah to
Madam Salmah and Mr. Nauman Iqbal. She was the couple’s first child. She
completed her secondary school from SMK Ibrahim and graduated from University
Kuala Lumpur. She was a vivacious young girl, sensitive, caring and lovely.

She got married as soon as she finished her graduation but, a bad omen for her
because the marriage brings her a big disaster. After being abused by her husband,
she separated from him and focused her efforts on building a better life and career
for herself.

She then applied for a flight attendant’s job with Air Asia, the biggest and largest
international air carrier in Malaysia at that time. There were nearly 10 000
applications, but Miss Syaziya was easily selected among the top 100.

She was sent to China for training and she impressed her training instructors
with her courage and zeal. Soon, she made a senior flight purser with the airways,
which is already a big achievement for a young woman of 22.

On 6th January 2011, Naurah Syaziya was on duty in the Air Asia, parked on the
tramac at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia, preparing for take off. The
flight was flying from Malaysia to Singapore with 361 passangers and 19 crew
members.

In a minute, four armed men entered into the aircraft. Immediately, Syaziya
alerted the crew who controlled the plane. Being the most senior staff on the
hijacked aircraft, she took charge. The terrorist wanted to fly to Israel and crash the
plane against a building. But, it was not possible as the cockpit crew had aready
escaped.

The passengers on the plane were from different countries, there were
Americans,Malaysians, Pakistanis, among other. They intent more on targeting the
Americans. When Syaziya was told to collect the passports of the passangers, she hid
the Americans ones so, the terrorist could not identify them.

The nightmare on the aircraft continued for long. The terrorists give up ready
with the government after 17 hours of waiting and prompting Syaziya to open the
emergency door. She could have escaped first, but choose not to. Instead, she
helped the passangers to escape. She was shot when she was trying to protect three
little children from the terrorist’s bullets after hours of saving the lives of the
passangers.

Government of Malaysia awarded her the highest gallantry award for bravery.
Just a day of her 23rd birthday at the time of her death, she became its youngest
recipients. One of the children who was saved by Syaziya is now a captain for a major
airline.

Based on Syaziya’s history, I am very proud to be a woman. I want to be just like

Syaziya, which is a brave woman who acts without thinking about her life. She is my
hero, Naurah Syaziya Binti Nauman Iqbal. Hope God blesses her soul always.
