Cultural Considerations

Culture can impact the way patients think about health, the way they care about things

that cause illness, and the manner in which individuals make choices concerning their health.

Sometimes, clinical practitioners ask clients regarding their religious beliefs so that they can deal

with particular complications those patients face.

In real-life clinical experience, some of the communities have exercised retrogressive Commented [G5]: Deleted:a

cultural practices which have impacted negatively on client’s health. Most of the health decisions

among societies from the Pacific Island have been determined by the old men who are found in

those communities (Brown et al., 2017). The most senior men act as mediators and also the Commented [G1]: Inserted: .

making crucial decisions. In most cases, old people do not discuss the causes or the effects of

madness (Brown et al., 2017). Since they perceive mental disorders as acts of shame, their Commented [G4]: Inserted: .

cultures do not disclose ailments which are related to madness. Therefore, most of the mentally

disturbed patients are left to suffer on their own.

One specific nursing diagnosis for the clinical example related to the cultural practice of

assuming the mentally challenged people is the risk nursing diagnosis. When incidences of

patients with mental problems are reported, nurses often make their judgments concerning the

dilemma which has been presented to them (Brown et al., 2017). Since some residents believe Commented [G7]: Inserted: .

that madness is not a disease, nurses use one person to educate a group of ten individuals about

the possible causes of mental health.
