Dear Sir or Madam:

I am writing on behalf of Mareasa Severson, whom I have worked with in my position as the
Director of Curriculum at Red Creek Central Schools for the past 2 years, and previously as a
parent when she taught my youngest son in UPK. It has been my pleasure to work with Mrs.
Severson in both capacities. I find her professionalism and work ethic to be of the highest quality.
Her genuine concern for what is best for students, willingness to share/collaborate with her
colleagues, and continuous self-reflection make her an educator of the highest quality.

Mrs. Severson was initially hired one week before school started when we needed to add another
section at 3rd grade. She not only did a fantastic job preparing and settling in, but also co-taught
with another teacher new to the district that year. They developed a wonderful classroom culture
where all students saw them both as teachers that cared about each of them.

This school year we decided to departmentalize fourth and fifth grades and had to make some
decisions around the strengths and interests of our elementary teaching staff. Both the principal
and I had many discussions and were in agreement that Mrs. Severson was an extremely strong
math teacher and asked her if she would be interested in making the move to 5th grade Math. She
was not only willing, but eagerly signed up for professional development workshops across the
region and spent much of her own time preparing for the school year.

Mrs. Severson’s demeanor both in the classroom and with colleagues can be described as caring
and warm, while also serious about achieving academic progress for students. She is highly
skilled in creating a culture for learning, accepting of all ideas and utilizing numerous strategies to
gain participation and check for understanding. She utilizes technology extensively, to not only
differentiate, but also engage and empower her students.
