Global trends in research related to the mitigation of climate change in the Earth during

2010-2016: a Bibliometric analysis

OVERVIEW

The analysis of the research on climate change is built from the tracking information of
researchers and research groups national, which generate scientific knowledge about
climate change in the world. In addition, discusses the scientific production in this field,
identifying trends, strengths, and gaps in the generation of new knowledge on climate
change.

In this paper a statistical analysis was performed which allows us to study that as
relevant is a theme in the world of science giving a reference line on issues which have
a great significance in the research. the realization of a Bibliometric analysis with help
of the Histcite software in reference to climate change over a period of 10 years (2007-
2016) gave us a vision of the comprehensive study which was carried out on the issue
with his more than 862 publications analyzing also the classification of authors and
countries pioneers in this research field where the quality of the articles with respect to
the number of references is bought.

INTRODUCTION

Climate change refers to a change that occurs in the State of the climate product of the
variation of the properties in the middle that are prolonged for a certain period, in the
last centuries and Millennium variation of climate in the nature has alerted to c scientific
community and its potential impact point is precisely the increase in the concentration
of CO2 in the atmosphere, Li Jinfeng toWang Ming-Huang toYuh-Shan Ho, have
concluded that the current CO2 must be reduced from its current 385 ppm to 350 ppm
maximum to preserve the planet [1].

The Bibliometrics refers a methodology of search which uses a system of quantitative

and statistical analysis to describe articles trends in various fields. referenciapasada [2].
Histcite provides information of the items that are a trend from metadata obtained from
the web of science. Bibliometric methods have been a useful tool that allows knowing
how has been progressing research in different areas, from the Narin (1976) first
proposed the concept of 'evaluative bibliometry', many scientists have attempted to
evaluate the trend of research product of the publication of countries, research institutes,
journals, and subjects category. referencia3.
Most cited articles can provide information about how the fields of research have
evolved over time and identify those researchers who have had a major impact in a field
of research, the analysis of the characteristics of quotations has been accepted as a
popular method for measuring the impact of an article. referencia10.

In the last two decades has been a rapid growth in population and urbanization
especially in developed countries, the environmental assessment (EA) has been
emerging in this context, which is the process of estimating and evaluating the effects
significant short and long term of a program or project on the quality of the environment
of the location is growing public concern, particularly because this process involves
identifying ways to minimize, mitigate or eliminate these effects and/or offset its
impact. referencia5.

The advancement of renewable energy has led to a strong expansion of modern

bioenergy systems. agriculture - a culture of low system performance that emulates the
closed cycles of matter naturally has been promoted as a more sustainable agriculture
system and I am raising scientific and political attention. referencia7. Pro preserve
sustainable development promote solutions that represent a great opportunity to take
advantage, the implementation and use of bioenergy, provided that good management
practices are followed can add benefits such as security energy, food security, climate
security and sustainable development, also contribute to the objective of reducing the
temperature of the planet 2° C product of greenhouses gases, which makes this practice
in an effective way to mitigate the climate change. guidelines2.

DATA SOURCE AND METHODOLOGY

The documents were obtained from the platform histcite which is a multidisciplinary
database application that uses metadata to provide articles that present the highest score,
articles related to “climate change" published during the period 2010-2016 were
consulted according to the theme "climate change" and search terms such as "climate",
"mitigation", "change", "bioenergy". To restrict the domains of search leaked the 30
most influential in this thematic journals (table 1 Appendix 1).

The conventional analysis of the scientific results, categories of subjects, journals,

authors, countries, institutes, and keywords were processed in Origin 8.1.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Characteristics of results of publications

For this study, 10 types of documents were found for a total of 862 publications over a
10-year study period. Articles (579), including published articles as proceeding papers
or book chapters, was the key document type, comprising 73.7% of the total production.
Ninety-eight percent of all articles were published in English as the predominant
language. The remaining percentage is distributed in French languages (0.5%), German
(0.5%), Italian (0.1%), Portuguese (0.1%).
The search related to climate change in the world of science has grown in the past
century, with the most recent report in 2007. Figure 1 shows how the publications
related to climate change have increased constantly since 2007. From this year the
publications related to climate change showed an average annual growth of the 8.82%
2016 year were conducted where more publications covering the 16.2% of the total
number of publications during the 10 years.

Distribution and categorization of magazines

due to the allocation of multiple subject categories to the journals, search related to
climate change was covered with 379 journals in a web of science. As illustrated in
Figure 2, climatic change (44 publications) and energy policy (33 publications) were the
two major journals related to the research of climate change in the world of science,
which dealt with issues of climate change mitigation (100%) and environmental policies
(8.4%) respectively. presenting a broad level of publication between 2011 and 2014
with an average of publication of 4.6% and, on the other hand, from 2014 publications
level decreased by parts of these two magazines positioning so Journal of cleaner
production with 7 publications (4.5%) and international journal of climate change
strategies and management with 3 publications (2%).

The 10 most productive journals are presented in table 1. There is a high concentration
of publications regarding climate change in this top magazines. These 10 magazines, or
the 2.65% 379 magazines, account for 201 items, or the 23.2% of the total number of
items. Climate change-related articles published in these journals have received, on
average, 11.4 summonses at the local level and 252.4 citations at the global level,
indicating that climate change-related articles published in these journals have had a
huge influence in this field. In addition, several magazines published a considerable
amount of articles related to climate change that are highly cited, including energy
policy (33 articles with 726 citations) and natural climate change (14 articles with 551
citations).

Productivity of authors and countries

From software histcite qualify the level of contribution of different authors concerning
the research of climate change in the world of science as well as the classification of
countries where major publications were leading U.S. in the list top 7 with a total of 254
publications representing 29.5% of the total of the publications in the last 10 years,
followed by the UK with 140 articles (16.2%) and Germany with 95 items (11.0%) and
finally meets Canada 45 articles (5.2%) as shown in Figure 3.

Analysis of keywords

Statistical analysis of keywords can be used to identify lines of monitoring in science,

75 articles had no keywords or author keywords and the rest of 787 items contained
12274 8692 keywords unique occurrences. However, 1254 (43.5%) of keywords were
used only once, and the large number of keywords from the authors who were unique
for some time give an indicator of the lack in research in these areas, only 124 (6.6%) of
the keywords were used in more than 10 items, and these keywords were present in the
majority of publications related to climate change, the change in the ranking of
keywords were indicative of the change in the most popular courses. Top 5 keywords
frequently used are shown in table 2.

With the exception of "climate" (present in 862 862 articles published articles) and
"mitigation" (861-862), which were words that were generally used in all publications
having a percentage of use of 100% and 99.9% respectively. The three most frequently
used keywords were "change", "adaptation" and "energy" doing presences in 845
articles (98%), 178 articles (20.6%) and 76 articles (8.8%) respectively, being the 0.21%
of the total number of keywords used in the publications.
