Ask students to write the rules to play hangman in their notebooks. Encourage them to sing the alphabet song in  images
order for them to remember the letters because they will play hangman. Show students images 1-3 and tell  morning

Place images 1-3 on the board and ask students to mention the most common greetings used during these times
of the day. Ask students to mention the greetings they use with their friends and family. Students will probably
mention the greetings in their mother tongue but as they mention a greeting write and mention the way it is in
English.

Explain that the use of greetings can be formal and informal depending on the person and place the person talks
to. From the greetings written on the board, ask students to decide if the greetings are informal or formal. Write Formal greetings

Assign each student a letter “H” or “I” and tell students to get together to form the word “Hi”. Once students are
in teams of 2, ask students to take out their notebooks read the expressions and circle the word formal or
informal according to what they think is correct.

Write the following short conversations on the board and invite different students to role play these with you.
Once several students have participated, ask the class to decide if the short conversations are formal or informal.

Ask students to bring a cereal box and a wooden or plastic stick for next class.

Session 3
20 minutes
Tell students “Remember we talked about greetings and parts of the day on the previous classes? In order for
you to know what we will talk about today, we will play hangman” Play hangman for students to guess the word.

Explain:

Tell students “Every time we end the English class we say…” Expected answer: “Good-bye/ See you tomorrow/
Bye-bye, etc. Say: “That is a farewell, class.”
Ask students “How often do you use farewells?” Expected answer: “Every day”. Ask students to mention some
farewells. Students will probably mention the farewells in their mother tongue but as they mention a farewell

Ask students to mention what part of the body is used to say goodbye. Students must mention the hand but if
they do not say it, you can say good bye using another part of the body example: shaking your head or using  Bye bye
your elbow or any other part until they mention the hand. Ask students to take out their notebooks and draw
their left and right hands on it or use image 7.

Decide on the farewell it’s going to be used to conclude the English class. Ask students to write the greeting they
decided to use once the English class begins on one hand and color it using green and the farewell they decided
to use once the English class is over on the other hand and color it using red. Students will glue the hands on the
cereal box and then they will cut them and add the wooden or plastic stick to it. Make one in advance and show
it to students image 6.  color

Ask students: “Have you seen the traffic lights in the streets? What colors can you see in it?” Expected answer:  paste
Green, yellow and red. Show students image 9 and ask students to mention what each light is for. After they
come up with the answer, ask a student to color the first light of image 9 using green, the second using yellow  traffic lights
and the third using red. Tell students “We will do the same for our English class. We will use our green hand  green
every time we start the English class and we will all say: TIME TO START THE ENGLISH CLASS. To conclude with  yellow
the English class we will use our red hand and we will all say: TIME TO FINISH THE ENGLISH CLASS.” Tell students  red
they will do this action and will mention the corresponding greeting or farewell.

Session 4
15 minutes
Tell students “Do you know what the international celebrations during this month are? One of the international  International
celebrations during this month is World Peace Day. It is celebrated on September 21st. This celebration reminds celebrations

us we should be polite and respectful to others. Here in your classroom you see your classmates and Spanish September
teacher every day. Do you think you should have a nice relationship with them?”  World Peace Day

Once students have answered “yes” ask them: “How can we do this” guide students to say “by doing good
actions/being courteous, etc.”

Tell students that for today’s class they will learn about courtesy expressions and will decide on which courtesy
expressions will be used in their classroom. Give students the following definition:

Ask students to mention the most important expressions that must be used in the English class making sure the  thank-you

to be polite?” Make sure students come up with the idea that it is important to be polite and respectful of
others. Ask students: “How can we be polite and respectful of others?” Expected answer: “We must have rules
and follow the rules.” Tell students: “We will decide on what rules are necessary for our English class.” Show
students images 10 and 11 and tell them that these are some examples of rules and that on future classes they
will decide on which rules they can use for their English class.

Take the following charts written in a flipchart sheet. Ask students to follow instructions.

To conclude the English class tell students they must think of a person whose occupation does not require
speaking because on the next class they will pretend to work on this occupation.

Session 8

Show students image 5 and ask the following question:

What do you see?

(Encourage students to speak English at all times. Tell them they can mention the colors, objects and the person
they see. )

After students have recognized he is a mime, tell students “This person’s job is to act out situations without
saying a word and on this session you will pretend to be a mime”. Tell students “Most of us mime when we

During and at the end of each class, accomplish the following points: Monitor the
students’ performance by walking around the classroom while they work. Check
notebooks when students finish with their work. Set 2-3 simple rules for activities
Suggested simple rules: 1. Raise your hand for permission to speak. 2. Raise your
hand for permission to leave your seat. 3. Follow directions quickly. Repeat the
rules before starting with an activity. Use mimics to make it easy for students to
learn the 3 simple rules.
