Everything stated herein is within my personal knowledge and is true and correct.” “lam employed as a Captain at the Falls County Sheriff's Office in Marlin, Texas. | have been employed by the Falls County Sheriff's Office since 2013, first as a Patrol Sergeant under the previous sheriff, and then as Captain under Sheriff Scaman. | ama ‘Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Certified Peace Officer. | have more than 22 years of law enforcement experience.” “During the time period of January 1, 2017, through the current date, | have worked for the Falls County Sheriff's Office as Captain. | worked at the Falls County Sheriff's Office during the time Nanci Anderson was working as Assistant Chief Deputy at the Falls County Sheriff's Office. We were both hired as part of the command staff at the same time, and I knew that she had been friends with Sheriff Scaman prior to working at the Falls County Sheriff's Office.” “| observed Sheriff Ricky Scaman and Ms. Anderson in the same area as each other many times throughout her employment. | actually shared an office with Ms. Anderson Affidavit of Derick Johnson Page 1 of 3which was just next door to Sheriff Scaman. Actually, all of the command staff and administrative personnel work within feet of each other. | was also present during conversations between Sheriff Scaman and Ms. Anderson. | never observed Sheriff Scaman and Ms. Anderson hold hands, kiss or otherwise touch each other, nor did | observe Sheriff Scaman subject Ms. Anderson to forced inappropriate physical contact in front of me. | never observed Sheriff Scaman act sexually inappropriately towards female employees, including Ms. Anderson, nor did | hear him make sexually inappropriate comments to Ms. Anderson in front of me.” “Of the command staff, Ms. Anderson had the most knowledge of corrections and running a jail. | believe that is one reason she was hired. Ms. Anderson had very little knowledge of law enforcement. Occasionally, she would be upset when she wasn't included in the law enforcement functions. | do not believe she was ever excluded because she was a woman, but instead, it was based on her lack of knowledge and experience.” “I never saw Ms. Anderson upset about the way Sheriff Scaman spoke or acted toward her. During the time she was employed, Ms. Anderson never reported to me that she had any issues with Sheriff Scaman treating her in a sexually inappropriate way. Ms. ‘Anderson felt comfortable confiding in me, including conversations about her relationship with her husband. If the Sheriff had been sexually harassing her, she would have raised that issue with me.” “Ms. Anderson did make comments that were sexual in nature while working at the Falls County Sheriff's Office.
