 Brightspace also provide a System Check which will perform a quick scan of one’s device and will determine if
it meets the requirements for Brightspace.

 Use the Internet Browser on your non/mobile device to access the Brightspace course through the
Campus Common.

Internet  Steps for using the Internet browser to access Brightspace:


Brower Access o Open the internet browser on our non/mobile device and enter in the Campus Common web address:
https://www.mycampus.argosy.edu
o Sign in using your username and password
o Locate the Brightspace class and select Launch

 If you are experiencing technical issues, please utilize the following steps:
o Email your instructor to let him/her know you are experiencing a technical issue.

BRIGHTSPACE – SPECIFICATIONS CONTINUED …
 This application allows you to download, organize, and read course content when you are on the go. It is
compatible with the following:
o iPad with iOS 8.0 or higher
o Android tablets and phones with 4.0.3 or higher

 Steps for using the Binder Application:


o Search for the “D2L Binder” in your application store.
o Upon downloading, you will need to create an account using your school email address and password.
This will allow the application to sync with your classroom
o To start storing course information, look for a “Send to Binder” button, featured at the bottom of
most every page within the classroom. The stored content will automatically be synced to your
application. The Binder application will also allow you to access content you have downloaded when
Binder App you don’t have a Wi-Fi connection.

 Any flash media and videos included in the course content will not display on Binder through your computer or
through the application. In addition, interactive media will show as still images on Binder. Please be sure to fully
view all media and videos in the classroom either on your computer or phone using the browser option.

 This application allows you to stay connected and on track with your coursework. It provides one place to
view your course calendars, readings, assignments, feedback, grades, announcements, and much more. It is
compatible with the following:
o iOS 9.0, 10.0 or later on iPhone 4s, 5, 5c, 5s, SE, 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, and iPod touch (5th and
6th generation)
o Android tablets and phones with 4.4 or later
Pulse App
 Steps for downloading the Pulse Application:
o Search for “Brightspace Pulse” in your app store
o Select “Pick your school”
o Search for your school name
o Enter your Argosy email address and Campus Common password
o Select “Sign In” to launch your course

BRIGHTSPACE – ACCESSING YOUR CLASSROOM
1. Log into your Campus Common account by using your username and password. The Campus Common can be accessed by using the
following link: https://www.mycampus.argosy.edu

2. On the Campus Common Homepage, locate the box entitled Brightspace, found at the top – right of the page. Below this heading,
you will see your course code and course title. Below your course code and course title, locate and select the Launch Class button. A
new page will appear.

3. The first page you will see is the Organizational Homepage. This is the landing page for our school in Brightspace. (For further details
regarding the Organizational Homepage, please refer to the section entitled Organizational Homepage section of this guide.)

4. On the Organizational Homepage, locate and select the Course Selector Tool from the Top Bar. You should see the course(s) in which
you are currently enrolled. Select the Pin Tool, located to the right of the course code and course title.

5. Refresh your page. Your course will now show under the My Courses section of the Organizational Homepage. Now you will be able to
easily enter your course anytime you launch it through the Campus Common. Select your course under My Courses to enter the
classroom.

1. When you enter your course for the first time, you will immediately see a pop-up window featuring the following:
a. An introduction message to the course by the Instructor
b. Instructor’s Biography
c. Course Overview

2. After viewing the video/ instructor message, you will simply exit from the page by selecting the “X” option, featured in the upper
right-hand corner of the page.

Component Definition

The instructors contact information, office hours, a biography, and course objectives are all
displayed within this area. As you can see notated within this section, instructors will have the
option of including a video as part of his/her biography. After viewing the video/ instructor
Instructor Welcome message, you will simply exit from the page by selecting the “X” option, featured in the upper
right hand corner of the page.
If you happen to accidently X out of this page, you may also utilize the following path to locate
your Instructors contact information: Classroom Homepage > Announcements.

1. Upon exiting the Instructor Welcome page, you will then have access to your Classroom Homepage. Before starting your first
Module, take a minute to set-up your account by selecting your name on the Top Bar, found on the Classroom Homepage. (For
further details regarding the Personal Menu options, please refer to the section entitled Top Bar – Personal Menu Icon of this guide.)

2. Select Profile from the personal menu that appears after selecting your name.

3. Within the Profile section, provide any details you feel comfortable submitting. When someone looks up your user profile, he/she
will be able to view the information you provided. If you are not comfortable revealing this information, simply leave it blank. To
upload a picture of yourself for others to see, use the browse button to locate the picture you would like to upload. After selecting
your picture, select OK, then Save and Close.

1. Before starting your first Module, take a minute to set-up your account by selecting your name on the Top Bar, found on the
Classroom Homepage. (For further details regarding the Personal Menu options, please refer to the section entitled Top Bar –
Personal Menu Icon of this guide.)

2. Select Notifications from the personal menu that appears after selecting your name.

3. Under Contact Methods, verify your email address is correct.

4. If you would like to receive text (SMS) alerts, register your mobile number. Select Register your mobile. Enter the country in which
you reside, your mobile carrier, and your mobile phone number. Select Save.

5. The system will automatically send a 4-digit confirmation code to your mobile device. This could take approximately 3 minutes. Enter
the 4-digit confirmation code and select Confirm. Your mobile number is now registered.

6. Now that you have confirmed your email and registered your mobile number, you can sign-up to receive instant notifications. We
suggest you choose to receive notifications (both email and SMS*) for the following:
a. Announcements – announcement updated
b. Announcements – new announcement available
c. Assignments – submission folder due date or end date is 2 days away
d. Grades – grade item released
e. Grades – grade item updated
f. Quizzes – quiz end date is 2 days away

A check mark will appear in each box you select. Once complete, select Save. You will now receive notifications via email and text.

* Text and data charges will apply for SMS notifications. Please consult with your mobile carrier with any questions prior to signing up
for SMS notifications.

1. Before starting your first Module, take a minute to set-up your account by selecting your name on the Top Bar, found on the
Classroom Homepage. (For further details regarding the Personal Menu options, please refer to the section entitled Top Bar –
Personal Menu Icon of this guide.)

2. Select Account Settings from the personal menu that appears after selecting your name.

3. Under the Account Settings tab, locate the section entitled Time Zone. Set the Continent and Time Zone to your location.* Select
Save.

4. Locate and select the Email tab. Under Email Options, place a check mark next to Send a copy of each outgoing message to (Your
Student Email). Select Save and Close. Your account settings are now set-up.

* You can set the Time Zone option to your current location, but please be aware that due dates/ times will always be based on
Mountain Standard Time.

1. Before starting Module 1, it would be beneficial to print the Course Syllabus. The Course Syllabus can be found by first selecting the
Course Content option, found on the Navigation Bar.

2. Locate and select the option entitled Readings & Assignments from the Navigation Bar Panel.

3. Locate and select the Readings & Assignments link, found on the right of the page. This will open the Course Syllabus and will provide
the option for Printing. (Print option can be found at the bottom of the page.)

4. Now that you have retrieved your Course Syllabus, it is now time to begin Module 1. In order to access Module 1 content, it will be
necessary you first return to the Classroom Homepage by selecting the Course Code/ Title, found at the top of the page.

5. On the Classroom Homepage, locate and select the Module 1 tile link, found on the right of the page.

6. After selecting Module 1 link, you will then have access to view the Course Introduction. The Course Introduction will provide details
of what will be learned in the course. In order to proceed, locate and select the right arrow, found at the top/bottom-right of the

7. The following page that will appear is Module 1 Overview. The Overview page will provide details of what will be learned in Module 1.

8. By selecting the right arrow, you will navigate to any required lectures for the module. Required textbook readings can be found
located within the Readings & Assignments area of the classroom (Navigation Bar > Course Content > Readings & Assignments). Once
all lectures and readings have been completed, you will notice a page entitled Module 1 Assignment 1 Discussion. Here you will find
details of the first discussion assignment, as well as an area for the discussion to take place.

9. In order to submit to the discussion thread, the following steps will be used:
a. Scroll to the discussion area for the specified module/ discussion (located below the overview and due dates for the
discussion).
b. Select the blue Start a New Thread option.
c. A word processor will appear on the page. Here you will type in the body of the word processor and/or attach documents.
d. Select Post.
e. Your post will appear in the discussion thread.

10. In order to reply to a peer or instructor’s discussion post, the following steps will be used:
a. Navigate to the peer or instructor’s discussion post to which you would like to reply.
b. After selecting the title for that discussion posting, a new page will appear.
c. From this page, locate and select the option entitled Reply to Thread, which is found at the bottom of the post to which you
are responding.
d. A word processor will appear on the page. Here you will type in the body of the word processor and/or attach documents.
e. Select Post.
f. Your response will appear in the initial discussion thread.

11. Continue through the module by selecting the right arrow. Assuming you have completed your discussions for the module, let’s
continue by discussing how to submit your assignments. Once the assignment page is located, you will find instructions for the
assignment, a rubric, and due dates for the assignment. The following steps will be used to submit a private assignment:
a. Scroll to the assignment area for the specified module (located below the overview and due dates for the discussion.)
b. Locate and select the Upload option, to upload documents to be submitted for the assignment. (You will also have the option
to drag and drop files directly to this area.)
c. After uploading the file, you will see it attached and a word processor will appear. Within the word processor, type any
required details for the assignment.
d. Once the file is attached and any comments have been provided, select Submit. You will notice a box appear, indicating the
submission details. You will also immediately receive an email with a submission receipt.

BRIGHTSPACE – VIEWING GRADES AND INSTRUCTOR FEEDBACK
1. To view your grades and instructor feedback, begin by locating and selecting the Grades option, found on the Navigation Bar.

2. Within the Grades area, you will find the following information for each discussion and assignment submission: Grade Item, Points
earned vs total points, grade percentage, instructor feedback.

3. An alternate method of accessing your grades is by using the Class Progress tab, found on the Navigation Bar. From the Navigation
Bar, locate and select the Class Progress option.

4. Within the Class Progress area, you will find the following information: Progress Summary, Grades, Content, Discussions, Assignments,
Quizzes, Course Access, and Login History. In order to access your grades, select the Grades option, found on the left navigation panel
of your Class Progress page.

Top Bar

Component Definition

1. Argosy University Logo Returns you to the Organizational Homepage. This also refreshes the page.

Dropdown which provides current courses in which you are enrolled. This will be used to launch

Alerts you to new email or instant messages. Also provides direct links to the Instant Message

Top Bar – Personal Menu Icon

Component Definition

Allows you the option to edit your user profile. This will include items such as demographics,
Profile contact information, option to upload a picture, educational background, and personal likes.
Note: Any information that is provided within the student profile will be visible to all students.

Allows you to control how you receive notifications regarding activity in your courses. You can

Allows you to control features of the online classroom. For example, you can customize the font,

Navigation Bar

Component Definition

This is where you can locate your progress in class(es), including the following: Grades and instructor
feedback, Objectives, Content (# of visits, time spent, topics visited, overall content completed for the
1. Class Progress module), Discussions (posts read, threads created, replies posted), Assignments (assignment submissions,
late submissions, awaiting grades), Quizzes (quizzes completed, attempts awaiting grades), and Login
History (# logins, last accessed course date).

Allows you to compose a new email message. You will have the ability to upload files, as well as record

all class participants, including the instructor.

Component Definition

Serves the same purpose as the Argosy University logo found on the Organizational Homepage. Both

Serves as a clear indicator of the course in which you reside. This would be extremely helpful if you
2. Course Code are enrolled in multiple classes, as it will ensure you are participating in the correct course. The
Course Code will also direct you to the main Course Homepage if selected.

Dropdown which provides current courses in which you are enrolled. This will be used to launch the

Navigation Bar

Component Definition
Location where all course content lives. This is used to organize course materials such as syllabi, lecture
1. Course Content notes, video, audio, and readings. This is also a way for you to navigate through all course content and
activities.

Once enrolled in a course, the course due dates are automatically added to the Calendar. Various views
2. Calendar and grouping options are available, as well as the option to create, track, and maintain personal tasks.
(Same as Organizational Homepage.)

Within the grades area, you will find the following information for each discussion and assignment
submission: Points earned vs total points, grade percentage, instructor feedback. You can sign up to receive
3. Grades
immediate text or email notifications when a grade item is released or updated. This will be accomplished
through the notification preferences on the Top Bar.

Within the Class Progress area, you will find the following information: Progress Summary, Grades and
instructor feedback, Content (# of visits, time spent, topics visited, overall content completed for the
4. Class Progress module), Discussions (posts read, threads created, replies posted), Assignments (assignment submissions,
late submissions, awaiting grades), Quizzes (quizzes completed, attempts awaiting grades), Course Access,

The Submissions Tab will be used to view your Turnitin scores for private assignment submissions. Within
5. Submissions this area, you will be able to reference the following items: Module, Score, Number of Submissions,
Feedback, and Due Date.

Updates and Announcements

Component Definition

This tool displays any new emails, private assignment submissions, and new posts in the discussion area.
1. Updates
Selecting the link will direct you to the specified area of the classroom.

Provides you with important events and notices specific to the course. Instructors post updates in this
area, so it is important you reference this information each time you enter the classroom. You can opt to
2. Announcements receive notifications when a new announcement has been added, as well as receive an email when each
new item has been released. These tasks can be accomplished via the Notifications option on the Top Bar
– Notifications option.

Component Definition
1. Module Link Directs you to the start of the module.

Flips tile to the reverse side. Reverse side will provide the following details for that module: %

Milestones required, Total Content completed vs Total Content required.

Calendar and User Links

Component Definition
Once enrolled in a course, the course due dates are automatically added to the Calendar. Various views

This section will display any links added by the instructor for the course. You may also add links to this

Location where all course content lives. This is used to organize course materials such as syllabi,

name of the file.
