The Warmth of Humans and Nature

"Nice weather isn't it?' is something you would ask, but then you would also have to ask who

doesn't like penguins, forest and the wild life, calming beaches, and Santa Claus?1 Well

considering your answer then, you’re going to hate global warming. What is Global

Warming, global warming is a steady increase of the earths overall temperature2 "Nasa has been

recording carbon dioxide levels from the past till today, from the time of 1950 it has shown that

for centuries we have had this level we didn’t go past till the and it's been raised 220 million

since then. In the article by Shaftel, this topic has been argued since 1900’s and that is still going

on today. One specific topic is it more natural because that nature has on the environment or is it

humans who have been causing the most damage. Global warming has affected landscapes,

forest life, animal’s habitats, people and government buildings and homes; the damage has been

around for the past 150 years but who is really at fault here.We have argued for some years to

find out if the issue is natural or if it is the fault of humans and our pollution; with the pollution it

affects the weather and the weather affects the landscape or monuments and landmarks of the

earth.

Rhetorical Question – this literary device is a questioned asked to make a dramatic effect.

Hypophora – asking a question that is answered in the next sentence.

An article from nature.com they mentions that we were creating a "feedback loop" that is

created by the ocean and the land ecosystem absorbing carbon dioxide anthropic emissions, this

feedback can accelerate this change. "The effect of high carbon levels in the atmosphere is an

uncertainty that can cause our planet of earth to be just as like its sister planet Venus (Shaftel).

The author of the article of NASA. com, said that greenhouse gas is designed to make the

heat of the sun to be trapped in it. The raising temperature has influenced the earth’s weather

making the summer's heat waves hotter and the winter colder or warmer, to the point it's not even

cold in the slightest. NASA published since the early 1880’s the weather has been slowly but

steadily raising at a rate by 1.1-1.6 degree each year in the past 150 years. (Shaftel) All the

problems that come with global warming vary since it’s more of a domino effect, but the first

thing that it affects is the temperature; since greenhouse gases trap sunlight heat this change of

heat, can affect a lot of things that like certain areas or monuments dedicated to history like army

battlefields or famous forest that were made in to markers. "The forest has a chemical, biological

and physical affects planetary energetics, hydrologic cycle, and atmospheric composition. These

have big effects on anthropogenic climate change. (Bonan, 1444-1449)."

Next, global warming temperature plays a big part in the effect of the landscapes and

terrain, since heat can dry up forest which can make it easier to make and prolong forest fires.

Also since there's more water when there's is a storm like a hurricane or flashfloods, then there is

a higher possibility of it being more devastating due to the excessive amount of water,

"Ice loss to the sea currently accounts for virtually the entire sea-level rise that is not attributable

to ocean warming and 60 % of the ice melted will result in .1 - .25 meters in 2100” (Meier, 1064-
Luke 3

1067). This means that in the year 2100 water levels are being raised. Since the storms are

getting worse, the erosion rate of objects that we like national landmarks or of something of great

value to the people or just for the sake of history. Some places like Ellis Island and Liberty have

had some precautions to prevent it, but some places can't protect themselves from global

warming, places like NASA’s Stennis Space Center, Johnson Space Center, Harriet Tubman

Monument and more around the United States. The reason why we are getting excessive

amounts of water is due to the polar icecaps melting. Thanks to the melting ice caps lots of

animals are losing their habitats, like krill, which affect other animals, since krill is an animal

that is eaten by majority of the other animals in the polar ice caps like whales, penguins and

seals. Each year krill is decreasing over the years.

To me global warming a real threat that’s natural, and is it unnatural, caused by the

pollution of humans; greenhouse gases were around for years before global warming was an

actually discovered; it was made natural. With the help of humans, the effect of the gas is getting

worse than it was in the beginning, like when it comes to switching gasoline for biofuel which

would lessen the effect it has on the greenhouse gas. The greenhouse gases that were around

before the discovery of global warming existence weren’t as bad until fossil fuel was being used

for more than one resource. In the article of sciencemag.org, they’re manmade. Greenhouse gas

is produced naturally in the world; by water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane

are natural substances that turn in to greenhouse gases. We produce a large amount greenhouse

gases when we use agriculture tools and equipment to help farmers make food for the people.

People have failed to see that with cheaper corn growth, it shows a higher chance of ethanol

emissions that can hurt the earth then the more expensive corn that causes lower ethanol levels,
Luke 4

farmers should just switch to ethanol to make it better for the long run, especially if it can stop

the effect that the greenhouse gas has on the earth and all of its wonderful landscapes.

Uniquely the landscapes of cities or other places have changed dramatically since the

discovery of global warming and the effects. Now we are supposed to receive harsh weather later

in the distant future not now in the present. The greenhouse gas has had big effects on the world

of today, such as the polar ice caps, where poor defenseless penguins live; the polar ice caps

where the penguins live have been melting at an alarming rate of 9% each year. The scientists at

NASA are worried about the change on the earth and how it wasn’t supposed to occur until

thousands of years from now. It's happening because the unnatural things we do to affect the

greenhouse gas, all the fuel we waste daily, using cars, and non-energy efficient light bulbs.

Global warming is happening due to the process of our abuse of the energy we use and how we

neglect the environment like towards the mountains, polar caps, to towns being engulfed by

water due to sporadic weather. The human populace should try and better ourselves by recycling,

being more efficient with electricity, and should stop cutting down trees because all the changes

to this world is all unnatural.

In conclusion is global warming is natural or is it caused by humans (unnatural). The

answer is simple it is both. Global warming is natural but the process of global warming was

inevitable since greenhouse gases are natural3 but it’s thanks to mankind that it has sped up

rapidly. The human race have advanced the course of action of nature more than once before,

when it comes to global warming, it's something that was sped up to the excessive amount of

energy that gets wasted that affects greenhouse gases for the worst. Global warming is a serious

issue that is going to affect everyone in the distant future. If we don't stop our ways, the

landscape changes, the change in weather, the change in population of different species. Global

warming has been around for years and it is not going to stop now, we should all try our best to

find a way to stop it.
