1 WARNINGS
The following definitions apply to this section. By signing the Short-Form Specification, the OEM
acknowledges having read and understood the conditions outlined here.
PRODUCT:
Designates the electronic controls/systems described in this present specification. This includes
all power modules, cables, user interface modules, sensors, etc.
OEM:
A customer who purchases and/or uses the PRODUCT.
FINISHED PRODUCT:
The final end product manufactured by the OEM, incorporating the PRODUCT.
HAZARDOUS CONDITION:
A condition that is potentially damaging and/or dangerous to the FINISHED PRODUCT, its user
or surroundings. This includes, but is not limited to fire, flooding or other water damage, dielectric
breakdowns (presence of high voltage), etc.
MTBF:
Mean-Time-Before-Failure, a statistical measure of the probable lifetime of the PRODUCT.
Installation/servicing warnings:
! Always install the PRODUCT according to the instructions provided.
! This PRODUCT should not be installed in proximity to highly flammable materials. Any
surrounding materials should be rated UL94–HB, or higher.
! This control should be installed in a location that will minimize the possibility of water ingress.
! This PRODUCT must always be mounted on a solid surface to minimize vibrations that could
lead to malfunctions.
! Use copper (Cu) wiring only when making connections to the PRODUCT.
! This PRODUCT must always be connected to a circuit protected by an approved ground-fault
circuit interrupter (GFCI) or residual current detector (RCD.) Always check local electrical codes
for approved GFCI and RCD types.
! The utility power cable supplying the PRODUCT must always be secured in place with a proper
strain-relief. IPx5 rating can only be maintained with a waterproof strain-relief.
! Maximum ambient conditions the PRODUCT is subjected to (temperature, humidity, etc.) are not
to be exceeded (these conditions are clearly stated in the specifications.)
! The PRODUCT should be serviced by qualified personnel only. There are no user serviceable
parts inside.
! If a fuse must be replaced, it should only be replaced by a fuse of the same type and rating.
! The PRODUCT (including any accessories such as sensors, cables, etc.) cannot be modified or
altered in any way without prior written approval from the manufacturer.

! All inputs and outputs (whether AC or DC) of the PRODUCT must be used according to their
intended use, as outlined in the specifications of the particular product. Any other use must be
approved by the manufacturer of the PRODUCT.
! Do not create any openings in the PRODUCT.
! Any cables supplied cannot be extended and/or modified, unless authorized by the manufacturer
of the PRODUCT.
! The heater must have the recommended minimum flow rate for safe and reliable operation.
Accessory warnings:
! Maximum loads connected to the PRODUCT are not to exceed the specifications (these are
clearly stated in the specifications.)
! The FINISHED PRODUCT elements containing water exposed to cold air (pipes, pumps, valves,
etc.) must be installed within approximately the same ambient conditions as the PRODUCT’S
power module to adequately protect against freezing.
Certification warnings:
! The PRODUCT is certified to North American UL and CSA Standards only. Do not use the
PRODUCT in any other countries or territories.
! The PRODUCT is certified to EN/IEC Standards only. Only use the PRODUCT in
countries or territories where IEC-based Standards apply. Refer to the CB Report for National
and/or local variations where applicable.
! This PRODUCT is not suitable (nor recognized) for use in gas applications.
! The PRODUCT is supplied as a certified Recognized Component (R/C) only. The FINISHED
PRODUCT is to be inspected and certified by the proper regulatory agencies. The fact that the
PRODUCT is an R/C does not infer compliancy of the FINISHED PRODUCT, which always
remains the OEM’s responsibility.
! Construction of FINAL PRODUCT must take into account any Engineering Considerations and
Conditions of Acceptability that may be listed in a regulatory agency’s report. Contact
manufacturer of PRODUCT for more details about a particular controller model.
! While due diligence is applied in designing and testing the PRODUCT, it is possible that an
output fails open or closed. If these types of failures can lead to HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS, it
is the responsibility of the OEM to provide safety devices where required in the FINAL
PRODUCT.
Other warnings:
! A notice shall be installed by the OEM on the FINISHED PRODUCT to notify the user to always
check the water temperature with their hand before entering it so as to prevent burns and other
injuries due to incorrect water temperatures.
! If a flow problem exists, the SmartWinter Mode may only occur at 2-hour intervals, even if
temperatures are low enough to mandate 15-minute cycles.
! The user manual must specify that if the keypad is physically damaged, the user must not use the
FINISHED PRODUCT and that servicing is required.
! By nature, electronic devices are sensitive to Electromagnetic Interference (EMI, such as
lightning, electrostatic discharges, line transients, etc.) The PRODUCT is designed with these
conditions in mind, but failures due to these natural phenomena may create HAZARDOUS

CONDITIONS. The FINAL PRODUCT should be designed to minimize EMI. For example, all
low-voltage wires/cables should be routed away from high-voltage wires/cables and accessories.
! Because of the electrical nature of the PRODUCT, failures may lead to a condition (hot surfaces,
sparks, hot debris, flame, or the like) that can ignite flammable surfaces in the vicinity of the
controller. The FINAL PRODUCT must be designed to take this possibility into consideration.
! The various parts of the PRODUCT may have plastic housings. These cannot be exposed to any
incompatible chemical substances such as (but not limited to) oils, greases, solvents, rust
inhibitors, etc. For example, WD-40® and Loctite® are not considered compatible. If a rust
inhibitor is required on spa metal parts, use only Slide Quick Silicone mold release No. 44612E.

This document is used to describe both the North American and CE versions of the products. Differences
are noted where applicable.
3 YJ SERIES OVERVIEW
3.1 PHYSICAL
Small size offers the flexibility to be easily assembled in small footprint spa.

4 INSTALLATION
4.1 MECHANICAL
Must be mounted on dry, solid, vibration-free surface (wall- or floor-mounted.)
Maximum ambient temperature and humidity levels per specifications
Appropriate gauge wiring (Cu only) must be used to connect in.yj to building branch circuit (refer
to local electric codes)
Electrician must remove 3” of cable insulation and then trip away ½” of each wire insulation to
ensure good contact connections.
Electrician must provide a strain-relief/bushing for the entry cable (a waterproof model if IPx5
rating is to be maintained.) Knock-out in in.yj is standard NPT-3/4” trade size.
Bonding lugs are provided on the controller and on the front of the heater tube (12-14 AWG Cu
wire only)
IMPORTANT: The Heat.wav Series heater requires a minimum of 18 GPM flow rate at all times.
Size spa plumbing and pumps accordingly. Inadequate flow rates will void the warranty.

4.2 ELECTRICAL
4.2.3 CE model
Supply is connected using standard CE single-phase installation practices. Unit must be supplied through
a Residual Current Detection device rated for a residual current not exceeding 30mA. Refer to the CE
230-240V, 50Hz colors of the AC Input sticker.

Single-phase connections: LINE is wired to L1 lug (Brown), Neutral is wired to N lug (Blue)
For safety, a solid ground to the G (green) lug is required at all times

The in.yj supports 3 switched power outputs, a heating element, a keypad connector (C1), a
communication link (C0) as well as standard 12Vdc light.
LINE1 is wired to P3 (black), RETURN is wired to P4 (white), CHASSIS is wired to P5 (green). Those
wires are always connected as shown on the wiring diagram no matter which voltage/wattage is used.
The low voltage cable is connected to the 8 pin JST connector P1.

The controller voltage selection can be performed by a qualified electrician upon installation in the field.
All in.yj units are shipped with the controller set to 120V (i.e. heater 1.0 kW.) The heating element can be
converted to a 240V (i.e. heater 4.0 kW) by completely removing the brown wire and by connecting L2 at
the input terminal.

Conversion note: when the heater is change to 240Vac, the Input Current parameter B-- in the Dealer
Options menu must be set to 25A or 32A. Failure to do so may result in nuisance tripping of the Input
Breaker, or incorrectly working Power Management functionality.

MTA-156 Descriptions
When this happens, all power the spa controller (and accessories) is removed, thereby ending the
temperature rise due to kinetic heating at a safe level of 50°C (122°F). A troubleshooting jumper is
present on the spa controller to disable this feature (J1).

either UL/CSA or CE models)
In some cases, maximum loads are determined by fusing restrictions and ambient temperature
Fusing
The YJ Series contain only 1 serviceable branch circuit fuse. If required, always replace fuse by
identically rated fuse of the same type. The fuse F2 is located under the cover. Note that the Heater
output is not fused for UL/CSA models (protection is provided by external breaker). The Heater output is
protected by fuse F2 in the CE configuration.

6 CERTIFICATION
! Units labeled are approved for sale in North America only; those labeled are approved
for sale in countries/territories that use IEC-based Standards. Installing/using products in the
wrong territory it was approved for will void the warranty. Units are not interchangeable.
6.1 UL/CSA
The in.yj spa controller and associated control pads are certified as Recognized Components only. Final,
complete end-product certification remains the OEM’s responsibility. Components are certified for use in
the United States of America and Canada only.
