Answer all the questions

1. Calculate the Laplacian of the following functions

a) T = x2 + 2xy + 3z + 4.
b) T = e−5x sin(4y)cos(3z).
c) v = x2 x̂ + 3xz ŷ − 2xz ẑ (Note that this is a vector function of field)

2. calculate curl of the following vector functions ,

a) v = x2 x̂ + 3xz 2 ŷ − 2xz ẑ.
b) v = xyx̂ + 2yz ŷ + 3zxẑ.
c) v = y 2 x̂ + (2x + z 2 )ŷ + 2yz ẑ.

3. Prove that divergence of a curl is always zero.

4. The force field acting on a two dimensional linear oscillator may be described by F = −kxx̂ − −ky ŷ.

b) (1,1)→ (1,4) → (4,4)

5. Calculate the divergence of the v = r̂/r2 . Sketch the vector field.

following vector is solenoidal, V = (4x + 2y − 3z)x̂+(x − y)ŷ+(5x − 7y + az)ẑ.

7. Check the divergence theorem for the function v = r2 r̂. Using as your volume the sphere of radius
R entered at origin.

8. Check the divergence theorem for the function v = r2 cos θ r̂ + r cos φ θ̂ − r2 sin φ cos θ φ̂ using as
