LESSON II – WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?
Congratulations on deciding to continue the course! Your work in
answering the questions on the page you sent in shows that you have an
interest in knowing THE HOLY SCRIPTURES. That interest will bring
blessing to you, because God has promised that he who meditates on His
Word “like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its
season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”
Psalm 1.3.
One of the most well known portions of the Holy Scriptures is the
GOSPEL OF JOHN. It was written by one of the 12 apostles, who had the
most intimate contact with Christ. His purpose for writing was to give us
knowledge of the wonderful person of Jesus, so that we might believe in
Him and therefore have eternal life. That is why it gives us great joy to give
you a copy of this precious book on which we will base the content of the
next 4 lessons.
The study plan we will follow is very simple. There are three things
you must do. First, begin to read. Make an effort to read at least one chapter
of the GOSPEL OF JOHN, that we gave you, each day. Ask God to give
you understanding to find truth that will help you live better.
Second, answer the questions. Each question is based on some part
of the Gospel of John. The part that is being considered is indicated by
chapter and verse as follows: 3.16, 17. This means : chapter 3, verses 16
and 17. When you have carefully read the indicated verse, write the answer
to the question in the space provided. As an example, read the first question
in the following lesson. It is already answered correctly.
Finally, when you have finished answering all of the questions, return

alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

We are extremely glad you remain firm in your desire to know
THE HOLY SCRIPTURES (The Bible). These are “able to make you
wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 3.15)
But for that to happen it is necessary that you have an intimate
relationship with them. This is precisely why when you registered for

recommended you read at least one chapter a day.

Both man’s nature and his conduct have separated him from
his heavenly Father, enslaving him in sin and making him deserving
of the just wrath of a holy God. But in his love, God seeks man.
Because of this there is hope for all in the saving work of Jesus.

We cannot understand this name without taking into account
the teaching of the Old Testament. Before Christ’s coming, God
established a religious system for His people. In the center of this
system were the sacrifices for sin. To obtain forgiveness, one had to

idea was that they themselves deserved to die because of their
offenses toward God, but God accepted a substitute in their place

price for our salvation. Now, if we confess our sins to God and if we

In this lesson we will focus our attention on the CHRISTIAN
LIFE. Proceed exactly as you have been doing up to this point.

LESSON IV – THE CHRISTIAN LIFE
Although the Gospel of John does not pretend to talk
about all the aspects of the matter, it does tell us some very
important things. Let us consider first what it teaches us in
regard to the BEGINNING of the christian life.

We see, the, that the christian life begins when one
comes to Christ on their own free will, submitting themselves
to Christ by faith, coming to know Christ in the intimacy of
their own personal spiritual experience, and being born again.
In other words, the beginning of the christian life is A
PERSONAL MATTER. No one becomes a christian simply by
being born of christian parents or by being baptized as a child
or infant.
We arrive to this world with inclinations toward evil.
When we reach the age when we are conscience of our acts, we
voluntarily give into this natural inclination and become guilty
before God and slaves to sin. If we continue in this condition
we have no right to expect anything other than God’s wrath
(3.36).
But God loves us (3.16), and to save us He sent His Son
to take away our sins (1.29). This he did by dying for us on the
cross (19.17-30) and by rising again from the dead (20.1-29).
The work of salvation was completely finished (19.30). Now
Christ tells us: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If
anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in
to him...” (Revelation 3.20).

LESSON V – THE CHRISTIAN LIFE
Last time we saw that the christian life BEGINS with a
new birth.
We are all sinners. Our sin has us separated from God.
If we continue by the path we are on, nothing awaits us in this
life except failure and deception, and a certain eternal
punishment.
But in his great love, God sent His Son to save us.
Leaving the heavenly glory, He became man being born to the
virgen Mary.
During thirty three years he lived in the world, facing all
of the trials and temptations that are an essential part of the
human life. But He never sinned! Afterward, taking upon
Himself all of our guilt, He paid with his death on the cross all
that we owed. They buried Him. But on the third day, He
arose. Forty days later he returned to heaven where He now
intercedes for all that believe in Him. Some day He will come
again to resurrect the dead, judge the world and establish His
eternal kingdom of justice, peace and goodness.
The saving work of salvation is completed. Our part
consists in recognizing that we are sinners; in confessing to
God that we are; and having a sincere desire to abandon our
sin. This is what the Scriptures call REPENTANCE. But there
is still one more thing. Although we sincerely desire to leave
our sin, we cannot do this by ourselves! We need help – the
help that only someone more powerful than sin o even death
can give. Who would that be? Only Jesus!
 So we must invite Him to come in as King of our life.
This is what the Scriptures call FAITH.
When we receive Christ as our Lord and Savior, He
enters our life and transforms it. It is then that we are born
again; it is then that the christian life BEGINS.
But God desires that our christian life not stay in that
initial state. He desires us to reach spiritual maturity; that we
become completely prepared for every good work. So now we
must focus our attention on the DEVELOPMENT of the
christian life.
