6. HOW TO USE THE TSM
The TSM conforms to the ATA 100 Breakdown and is broken down into systems and circuits. Systems are broken down into functions.
The most direct way of gaining access to a TSM function is by using the Table of Contents (TOC for the Chapter/System for the given function ( (Ref. Fig. 101 SHEET

The referenced Fault Isolation procedure should then be carried out.

(a) Fault Symptoms
Fault Symptoms (FS) procedures are an intermediate step to enable mechanics to locate a failure.
Each FS page corresponds to the review of several types of failure in a given system.
E.g. : Pack Temperature Control-Fault Symptoms.
An FS page combines horizontal and vertical lines.
The top of an FS page contains the remarks made in relation to the equipment of the system under consideration (position of PB/switches, rotary switches,
condition of lights, data received from ECAM DISPLAY UNITS, etc…).
Each column, according to its technical details, generally leads to an interrogation symbol (lozenge) which, depending on the answer provided - YES or
NO -, enables the user to go further into the trouble shooting or to go directly to the CROSS-REF FIG. of the concerned Fault Isolation.
The usual YES or NO answers can be substituted by an appropriate text describing a condition.
E.g. : (Ref. Fig. SHEET 01

NOTE: - Fault Symptoms (FS) are normally shown on a single page. Depending on the number of the fault isolation se-
quences, a Fault Symptom may be split into two sheets.
- In a sheet, dotted lines denote that a part of the considered Fault Symptoms are referred to the other sheet.
For similarity between the two sheets, PREREQUISITES are repeated as well as the text at the top of columns.
The NORMAL state operation line is also boxed.
- Fault symptoms of some chapters directly cross-refer to the numbered blocks located in the FAULT ISOLATION
pages. These blocks are associated with the ATA REF, Fig. number of the Fault Isolation ( (Ref. Fig. 106 SHEET
01) ).

(b) Prerequisites
At the top of the FS, the prerequisites indicate the configuration in which the A/C must be when trouble shooting is commenced and also the list of the C/
Bs that must be closed.

E.g. : EXTERNAL ELECTRICAL POWER ( AMM 24-41-00, P. BLOCK 301 ).

N/A IF REFUELING ON A/C BATTERIES
C/Bs IN : 321/P56 thru 321/P61

(c) Fault Isolation

The Fault Symptom Cross Reference leads to the CHAP/SEC/SUB Fig. of the Fault Isolation page. For example : 23-31-00 Fig. 109.
The top of the page contains the required PREREQUISITES. This page is laid out in the form of numbered blocks, positioned in logical sequence for
trouble shooting.
The beginning of the FS text corresponds technically to that of the Fault Symptoms column.
In the light of the necessary actions to be taken and the questions posed (left portion of the page), the blocks on the right hand side specify actions
required (e.g. replacing).
Removal/Installation procedures refer to the AMM and wiring repair procedures to the AWM/ESPM.
Before you get access for a wiring check, make sure that you obey the applicable warning(s):

WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION
BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
- THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
- THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
- COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
MOVEMENT OF COMPONENTS CAN KILL OR INJURE PERSONS.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO THE DEACTIVATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER
BEFORE YOU DO MAINTENANCE WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST
REVERSER. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS PROCEDURE, THERE IS A RISK OF
UNWANTED OPERATION AND THUS OF INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.

WARNING: YOU MUST OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES WHEN YOU DO WORK
IN OR NEAR THE FUEL THANK. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE SAFETY

PROCEDURES, THERE IS A RISK OF:

- DEATH OR INJURY TO PERSONS
- DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT OR OTHER EQUIPMENT.

Specific instructions for the wiring check are given where necessary.
These include values (eg. resistance) and connector/pin numbers where applicable. If no specific instructions are given for the wiring check, the check
must include a continuity test ( ESPM 20-52-21 ) and a test for short circuit ( ESPM 20-52-22 )
